In the original Iron Man comic from 1962, Tony Stark was kidnapped by guerrillas in Vietnam. The country where he is kidnapped and escapes from with his first suit has been changed a few times. Afghanistan being an obvious choice for 2008 given the ongoing war there.

He first appeared in a divided book, maybe "Tales Of Suspense" or "Tales To Astonish," before he got his own title. I was reading and collecting them then, but I don't remember if the introductory comics were shared with Captain America, Doctor Strange, or perhaps The Incredible Hulk. I gave up my comics about twenty five years ago to a family member who intended to open a comic book shop.
@darthken8157 күн бұрын
@@jeffthompson9622 It was Tales of Suspense that he co-starred with Cap in. Tony got his own book in 1968, and T.o.S. was renamed Captain America. Hela's hilarious: "If it's dirty, she cannot drink it!" Hela, a "dirty" drink is one with some changes in the ingredients -- for martinis, typically it's adding olive juice. Also, incidentally the crazy TV stock guy who says "Sell, sell, sell!" after Tony says he's going to stop weapons manufacturing is a real person -- Jim Cramer of Mad Money, and that was his show.

Nice review ladies!!...The term "bogey" is Royal Air Force slang from World War II. In military aviation, an "enemy aircraft" is called a "bogey" when it's unidentified, meaning it is a potential threat on radar or visually that hasn't been positively confirmed as friendly or hostile yet; essentially, a "suspected enemy aircraft" on the radar screen, requiring further investigation and potential action. Once an aircraft is positively identified as an enemy, it is usually referred to as a "bandit."

But if I could have one thing from him it would be his genius and that's his superpower. The fact that he has so many suits was enough to really get behind the character's legacy. It did change the game of shared universes and superhero franchises. That post-credit scene was so "off to the races" and we couldn't wait to see what was next. The reason why Tony Stark revealed to the public his identity as Iron Man, is because unlike other superheroes (like Batman, Superman and others), Tony doesn't really have a family that he really needs to take care of and protect. The only person that Tony Stark really cares for, is his assistant - Pepper Potts. And she is practically mostly protected by Tony's huge organization, where she is working in, and where she is safe and secured in doing so. And thus, it is okay for Tony Stark to reveal himself as Iron Man. Again, great work to your reaction and review ladies. More power! 😉

It was also a subvertsion of comic book troupes. In the comics Stark pretended Ironman was a bodyguard of his as the reporter references near the end and how ridiculous that sounds.. Tony Stark was modeled on an American businessman named Howard Hughes. Hughes was an inventor, arms manufacturer and millionaire during World War 2. He also directed and produced numerous movies including the original Scarface (1932) and was famous for dating beautiful women. While pursuing the American actress Hedy Lamar (herself a brilliant inventor and scientist), he bought her a scientific laboratory and chemistry facility customized to fit in her trailer on a movie set so she could conduct scientific research between takes (She invented the technology that would become Wifi). He invited her to the plant where he built planes for the Air Force, and she was able to fix a prototype plane which Hughes's engineers struggled to get flying just by looking at it. But Hughes crashed an experimental plane that he had designed himself into the side of a barn and seriously injured his back. This exacerbated his pre-existing mental health issues. Unlike Tony Stark (Iron Man), Hughes developed a crippling drug addiction and withdrew from society, refusing to be seen in public or interact with people other than a selection of guys from a religious minority (Mormons) despite Hughes himself not believing in any sort of religion. He spent his final years in the top floor of a Las Vegas casino. He helped the CIA discover a missing Soviet submarine in the mid 70s by offering them access to a special boat he had built, and died in 1978. Elon Musk desperately wishes he was Howard Hughes. When Stan Lee (the old guy Tony mistakes for Hugh Hefner in the movie) created the character in the 60s, he wanted to challenge his readers, who were mostly young men who were awkward around women and girls and against the Viet Nam war. Compare Tony Stark to, for example, Peter Parker (Spider Man). So he created a character who was a war profiteer who was charming, handsome and successful with girls to see if readers would stick with the character. And ~45 years later, here we are.

The funny thing is, the part Hela said was scripted, actually wasn't... Iron Man was rushed into production ahead of a writer's guild strike, and large parts of the dialogue were improv'd by the actors due to an incomplete script. RDJ made up much of Stark's monologue before the Jericho test himself.

There’s actually a game called Operation in North America. You can’t touch the sides. That’s what he was referencing.😅
