10/10. One of the best films I’ve seen of this genre: more twists and turns than a Nice coastal road. It will blow you away!

Too many twists for me to keep up with. Maybe I'll watch it again. Also, the plot states his wife was murdered. 1. He wasn't married 2. It was his boss.

I have not watched the entire movie, but I have found reviews of various movies to be very unhelpful at times. With me, it's like restaurants, what one person thinks is bad, I think the opposite(and, the other way around). For some people, if they see a 1949 car in a movie that is supposed to be taking place in 1947, they end up trashing the entire movie. Personally, I like a good story that is well written and acted well. Those are three of the main things I like.

A very good spy film, well-written and acted, and some great photography! IMDB’s rating of 6.0 is far too low. Thanks for making it available to us all. (An aside, I think Robert Mitchum must have written it into his movie contracts that he had to remove his shirt in front of the camera at least once per film! And another: Ingrid Thulin, trained as a ballet dancer, has one of the most endearing accents I’ve ever heard).

@E-KatКүн бұрын
The music is a leftover from the silent movie era, when it was impossible to synchronise the audio and video, and music was employed to tell the viewers what was happening on the screen, before the dialogue cards were shown to the audience. Now, the producers put so much effort into making a believable film and then, the music comes on!😂 It often looks like a whole brass band follows the actors on the street. 🤣 Thank goodness the theatres have been saved from the background music!! 😊

When they say "They don't make movies like this anymore", it's no exaggeration. This movie is close to perfection. The moralising was genuine and appropriate, not self serving, insincere and sanctimonious. Compare that with 2025, where prominent celebrities and politicians promote a narrative for the social status benefits; (and to hell with truth, decency or integrity.)

Millionaire Victor Danemore, living on the French Riviera, dies suddenly of a heart attack. His secretary, Dave Bishop (Robert Mitchum), wants to know more about his employer's life. Surprisingly, not even his young wife knows anything about her husband's background or how he earned his fortune. Bishop enters into a world of espionage and blackmail while uncovering Danemore's secret past. Clues lead Bishop to Vienna and Stockholm, where he learns that Danemore was blackmailing people who cooperated with the Nazis during World War II. Groundwork was laid to be a 3 or 4 movie serial like those of today. Toss in great actors, and a love story. Simply sit back and enjoy the entertainment.

THIS is more of a "soap opera" type film. People, the common folk. like going to see how the rich live life in splendor and opulence. IT made their lives that much less tragic when they could see how those that have would still be so bothered by things that were ridiculously perceived as "problems".

one flaw is the traitor in Switzerland waiting for Hitlers army, Switzerland was neutral and so was Sweden. Hitler respected that neutrality. Further the traitor in America is absurd as it means Hitler was to invade America with no navy. So movie writer was poorly educated on history. However the leading ladies were pretty and attractively dressed . Swedish girl did a great job being a emotional, horny, impulsive, trusting, innocent young woman.
