Valentina Cortesa....what a good actress!! Never heard of her!! No one can imagine how wounded she must have been (from the concentration camps) She played every scene to perfection. Not the standard bland pretty but with an expressive elegant face Great movie!!!!!! Directing, lighting, setting,😊 intriguing storyline, the eerie ornate mansion, the costuming, camera angles...all top quality. Loved the SF steep hill shots....(I lived in an apartment on the steepest one in the 70s when I had good knees)...and proof that at one time there was barely any SF traffic! Thank you so much for this gem of a film!!!

That was a good movie, but I confess I was more enthralled with the setting than with the plot. Though this film was made before I was born, San Francisco still looked like the same in the 60s when I was a little girl. I've loved it all my life - not the way it is now, but the way it was then. Feels like I've just had a trip in a time machine, Thank you for posting this!

Who would think in a great nation like ours a fine city like that would rot into the nasty foul mess it has become? The masses of good people allowed bad gov and persons the power to mow them down with bad maintenence of people and places. I was in CA for 2 years as a child, left to go east for TX after 2nd grade 1962. Thank God. Never been back to CA. Glad to be back home in MO last 3 decades.

Portland OR, too, is turning (has turned) into an unfriendly place. AWESOME long weekend destinations that have lost all their charm. SF and Ptld are very sad places. The businesses, shops and restaurants have all shut down or relocated. Went to the grandchild's piano recital at a piano store and her teacher was so shook by the state of the neighborhood that she found another venue. The kids were oblivious but the parents were nervous about walking to their cars at dusk. In my Oregon. 💔😞

I watch this movie frequently - it's one of my favorites. My only beef is at the end when Marc tells Victoria, "I don't want you to spend another night in this house." People are always blaming places! The house did nothing wrong! It's a lovely place! My sister once condemned an entire county because she married the wrong guy there. It wasn't the county's fault!

I have a few circle skirts. I feel like I could rule the world, buy out the grocery story, cook afabulous 5 course meal and dance the night away every time I put one on! I AM FEMALE! I OWN THE WORLD! Born in 57. I am OBSESSED with shirtdresses and full midi-length skirts. Have been all my life. My first shirtwaist was a pink hand me down from family friends and I LOVED that dress! Plus Mom never put one of her daughters in pink voluntarily so there was that. Mom and I had battles--the biggest was the bright floral spring raincoat she made me wear to my grandpa's funeral. I though it was so disrespectful. I was 6. I'm 67 and I still recall how it felt sitting there in that bright raincoat.

Footnote: The actress who played the protagonist's doomed friend in the concentration camp was Natasha Lytess, now known primarily as Marilyn Monroe's first official 'acting coach', during the first part of her film career and stardom years. She was a good actress. She deserved to be remembered for that at least as much.
