Amazing how something so small, can cause so much pain in the finger. Being careful not to push it deeper in.

I had a sliver of glass in my foot and couldn't get it out. I thought I could let it gradually work to the surface. Three weeks later, I'm in the ER with my 12-year-old son and niece because the tiny spot turned green. Dr. comes in with a tray of medical torcher devices and the kids started teasing me because of how I looked when I realized that for the next few minutes, my life three weeks earlier would have been well spent digging the glass out with tweezers. The Dr told me to turn over to my stomach... "Ok," he said, "this might be a little uncomfortable." As he is telling me this, it felt like he had a metal rod stuck in the fire for 2 hours and stabbed my heel. I hollered loud and at the same time realized that not only are the bratty kids that were laughing one moment, are now looking at me in shear horror. The Dr then to the next device and twisted a plug of my heel out. He said "Hey guys, you want to see something cool?" While though I'm not in any pain, all I can hear is oooo's and awwws and them admiring the hole in my foot. Needless to say, my son and niece went from teasing to being freaked out in awww and back to being teasing brats that now had a funny story to tell. Sorry, long but funny story.

This is not how splinter are removed. Just use sterilized sewing needle or thin and sharp pointed bamboo stick to dig out to remove small splinters. (Why I'm recommending bamboo over wood because bamboo is much stronger and not easy to break.)
