On the 11th of July, a foreigner burst into profanity at a Thai passenger on the BTS, telling her and others around to "Get the F##K out of the way" and "Shut the F##K up," among other things. He claimed his language was not rude and the only reason she misinterpreted it was because she didn't speak English well enough.
In this clip, I analyse the language used and look at the fascinating power dynamics that evolved in this short incident in Bangkok. There are many valuable linguistic, cultural, and social lessons we can take home from it.
