That's not possible ever. Lou Gramm said Johnny Edwards was a great singer , but he didn't like the songs on this album UNUSUAL HEAT. Ironically UNUSUAL HEAT charted at # 117 on Billboard in 1991 and Lous final album with Foreigner MR.MOONLIGHT charted at #,136 on Billboard in 1994-95. Yep, Lous album did far worse. Lou could never hit that super high tweeter note like Edwards did in the chorus anyway. 😮
@failingup4907 Жыл бұрын
@@waltersimmons946 Lou said he came back to the band because he felt Johnny was running his legacy doing live concerts. Said he couldn't sing it. He didn't want Foreigner to be remembered for that.
@waltersimmons946 Жыл бұрын
@@failingup4907 I saw that interview when Lou said that but honestly I listened to a lot of Lous interviews and lol 😆 I love Lou but his explanations why he returned to Foreigner are extremely INCONSISTENT and keep changing. There's are live concerts on RUMBLE and some on KZbin in 1991 at FRESNO FAIR with Edwards on vocals. The setlist is 15 songs 🎵 and Edwards sang the classics and 5 songs from UNUSUAL HEAT were in that setlist. He did an amazing job. That super high note Edwards hits in ILL FIGHT FOR YOU. He hits that note on stage in that concert also on MOUNTAIN OF LOVE and READY FOR THE RAIN. The guy can sing. Lou was really mad at Mick for replacing him . The same issue Lou also has with Kelly Hansen , he resents being replaced. Also though Lou left again in 2003, yep 20 yrs ago. He's still bickering in current interviews about Mick cheating him out of the royalty ratio for I WANT TO KNOW WHAT LOVE IS. Lou never got a penny for the song though he arranged the vocal take himself with a studio engineer. Lou said that he did a solo tour on his second solo album LONG HARD LOOK (1989) and then returned to Foreigner. Lou said that but hey ?? What happened to SHADOW KING?? Their album came out in October of 1991, 5 months after UNUSUAL HEAT with Edwards was released. I bought both albums that year as they came out. Lou is inconsistent in his explanations. He returned to Foreigner in April of 1992. Edwards finished 8 new demos for a follow up to UNUSUAL HEAT when Mick jones without a heads up dropped Edwards from the band. Also on KZbin, there is a SHADOW KING live concert . It's live and was recorded in England at the ASTORIA on Friday December 13th 1991 . Lou , Vivian Campbell, Bruce Turgon and Kevin Valentine plus an extra guy to play keyboards for them on stage. You should check it out if you hadn't seen it already. It was the ONLY concert they ever did thanks to ATLANTIC RECORDS and Mick Jones sabotaging the band to force Lou back in Foreigner. Edwards current band is called BLEU PHONQUE , he came out of(music) retirement in 2015 after 20 yrs . His concerts with his current band are also on KZbin. He's also been singing Foreigner classics with THE 80s Icons. He's considered a hero in Kentucky for his past performances with BUSTER BROWN and Foreigner. I take Lous explanations with a grain of salt because he's forgotten bits and pieces of the 1990 to 1992 period.
@failingup4907 Жыл бұрын

Mick screwed Johnny Edwards over. In 1992 Mick and Johnny completed 8 new demos for a follow up album after the 1991 UNUSUAL HEAT record . Johnny had been looking for a new house for a while and Mick knew about this, even had discussions on the subject. Finally Johnny found a house and Mick gave Johnny a day or so off to move his wife and baby into the new house. A whole week had passed by and Mick finally calls Johnny Edwards and tells him "IM SORRY BUT WERE BRINGING LOU BACK INTO THE BAND" .Yes, Mick Jones humiliated Johnny Edwards and yes, I agree they could've continued without Lou but greed , money prevailed. Notice Edwards wasn't at the 2017 40th Reunion but they paid him money for the song LOW DOWN AND DIRTY. Also Edwards beat out Kelly Hansen to replace Lou in 1990. Yep, Hansen tried out for the job before. I'll be glad when they're finally done. Both Edwards and Hansen each made one Foreigner album during their tenure. Hansen was in the band a lot longer but has been living off Lou gramms legacy. Mr.Moonlight Lous last Foreigner album in 1994 bombed far worse than Unusual Heat. The band never recovered , just lived off touring. What a waste.

Johnny Edwards on vocals. He took over lead vocal when Lou Gramm left the first time over creative differences to do Shadow King. Edwards did one album, disappointing reviews and lackluster record sales, he then was dropped when Lou was begged to come back. After Lou's brain tumor and more creative differences Lou Gramm left for good. Kelly Hansen was hired to take over lead vocals through the present time.
@waltersimmons9464 жыл бұрын
You are on spot, Johnny did an interview ( audio) in December , 2019 he was asked how many people was Foreigner looking at as replacement for Gramm and he said it came down to three people .Mark Free (who was in King Kobra before him) Johnny Himself and last but not least Kelly Hansen this was in 1990 .What many people dont know is his original band Buster Brown ( Kentucky based band where he's from) changed its name to Wild Horses and got a contract immediately with Atlantic , in the midst of this was when Mick approached him about joining Foreigner and Johhnny turned it down .Mick and Atlantic was very persistent and turned up the heat about Johnny being the new singer and finally. he went with it , what i didn't like was after all the pursuing and everything was how Mick abruptly dropped him out of the band to bring Lou back , the man was in the process of buying a new home , and there was no headsup about that Johnny and Foreigner recorded eight demos for a new album and he blind sided Johnny so he could use Lou to save the fanbase and make money. . But Lou wasn't treated fair either Shadow King " failed" not because it was bad album the record company enthusiaclly recorded the album but backed off promoting it, and after one concert( its on youtube) pulled the plug on the band to force Lou back to Foreigner and for a while Lou blamed Mick for the sabotage of Shadow King and he did try to torch Lou's solo career as well.But look what happened Mr. Moonlight charted worse than Unusual Heat. This happens when musicians are out of touch with fans.

And by "creative differences" you mean Gramm was pissed as hell that Jones robbed him of a songwriting credit and millions of dollars on "I Want to Know What Love Is."
@waltersimmons9464 жыл бұрын
@@TontoEpstein That credit problem actually started during the making of the 4 album with the song "URGENT". Mick always got his way on these things till Lou had enough this was a problem for about 5 years so it shows Lou was not a hot head , he was being disrespected , I didnt blame him for breaking out that kind of prison.
@TontoEpstein4 жыл бұрын
@@waltersimmons946 It wasn't about respect, it was about money.
@waltersimmons9464 жыл бұрын
@@TontoEpstein It was about both because Lou was cut out of having input on their music during the Agent Provocateur period Mick was making decisions without any input from anyone and the creative "partnership" they had was not this way when the band began , Micks greed and more control over the band (after they went from 6 people to 4. ) Was why he left if it was soley money he would have left sooner , when Mick begged him to come back .Lou told him he wanted creative equity, input that would not be automatically dismissed and freedom to create in the songwriting process again and Mick agreed to it and Lou returned , I never said money didnt have a part in it I only said the problem started with URGENT and their ratios on that song were never disclosed. And in a podcast interview December 4, 2019 Lous replacement in 1990 Johnny Edwards also disclosed a lot of what I've told you and most is in Lou's book. Take care
