Ilocano Food Is Amazing!!!
I spent some time learning Ilocano Language while at the same time learning how to cook an Ilocano dish called "Inabraw". This local dish consists of some very unique vegetables, flavourings and in our case some local Ilocano style Bagnet!
You can serve it with fish or other meats, but I have to say...
NAIMAS (Delicious) Kaayo!!! Loved this day and dish!
Foreigner learning Ilocano ways in Zambales!
Wahoo!!
Super Apir!

Hi, Kyle! An Ilocano-Fil-Am based in California, here I am watching this vlog of yours for the second time since I first subscribed months ago. Just want you to know that you've put a wide--ear to ear--smile on my face, as I'm sure--countless more like me--for your enthusiastic and sincere embrace of our Ilocano culture and cuisine. Your dinengdeng surely looks delish: naimas! Perfect meat dishes, matching with the Ilocos bagnet and the longganisa. Next time you go to Ilocos Norte, taste the cauliflower-looking bagnet, if you haven't yet: the fried pork skin pops, looking like the said vegetable. The Ilocano longganisa greatly differs from its Tagalog-Kapampangan sweeter-tasting counterpart--in the dominance of the (stronger) Ilocano garlic and sugarcane vinegar, and ground black pepper: in taste and aroma. I'm salivating now, even just writing about it. Thank you for bringing us virtually closer to our Motherland with your "Happy Man" Philippine vlogs. You ARE the epitome of a Happy Man. May God bless and protect you wherever you go. :-)

Sayang.. If they visit the Philippines, wala silang alam na isang tagalog or ilocano word. Ilokano ako, pero natuto ako ng tagalog at ilonggo. Happy to have married my Filipina wife. She taught me the tagalog at illonggo. I moved to Denmark in Europe when I was 7 years old.

Greetings from Las Vegas, the 9th Hawai'ian Island :). Enjoyed these 2-part videos in Zambales. My great great grandparents were from San Marcelino, few towns before San Felipe, and were pure Ilocanos who migrated from the north (La Union) before they all migrated to Hawaii in the early 1950s. I was born and grew up in Hawaii listening, hearing and learning and understanding but speak very little Ilocano, and I remember having these same vegetables (among others) in my grandparents' backyard garden in Hawaii. They would cook them with homemade anchovy sauce (bagoong) in a variety of Dengdeng (diningding) dishes and always served them with freshly caught grilled fish. Memories :) Agyamanak apo :)

Contrary to what you may have been taught, or what you might have heard or read, Ilocano refers to the person speaking the language called Iloco. And we don't have po and opo in Iloco, we use "apo", when directly translated means god or lord I.e lord Jesus = apo Hesus, as an honorific which metaphorically call "asin" (salt). A kid talking to an adult without using honorifics would be questioned "apay awan asin mo?" contextually translated to "don't you know how to give respect?". Another thing is we have our own word in Iloco for palengke. Matabang is tagalog, an Ilokano would say "nalab-ay". And spellings in Iloco is tricky, for example, it is "diay", instead of 'dyay'. Go to region 1, particularly ilocos Sur and ilocos Norte, eat Vigan longganisa, eat papaitan (try both goat and cow variety),eat kilawen, caliente, dinakdakan, warek warek, Imbaliktad, pinakbet, miki, and bagnet (Ilocos Sur and Norte's bagnets taste a tad bit different, but bagnet from here taste the best across any region in the Philippines, region 1 is called ilocos region for a reason) and dinengdeng, and lastly for seafood, look specifically for the fish called "malaga" and have them cook it for you in different dishes. There are a lot of seafood dishes, even some sea creatures can only be harvested once a year thus can only be eaten then, but I'd suggest you eat malaga first since it taste like no other fish out there. These are, on the top of my head, few of the many original Ilokano, my ethnicity, dishes/recipes. Eat to your heart's content and be at bliss.
