Nelson, the biggest mistake that you will probably commit while touring the Indian Subcontinent is to treat this place as a monolith. Cultures, traditions, attire, dialects, foods, everything.... change every few hundred kilometers. Even within the tiny country of Nepal, you will find diversity and difference in the way people greet you with Namaste. India is a huge country. So, within India, there are hundreds to thousands of dialects and accents. You have so far been to Mumbai only. If you visit some Himalayan state in India, you will find closer resemblance to Nepali style of greeting than Mumbai's. The Indian Subcontinent is not called a subcontinent for no reason. It is a whole new world in itself!
