Yes! This is the best comment I've read about which Aus city is best. I'm moving back to Aus after nearly 19 years away this year, and will be moving to Adelaide. Most Aussies I know (from melb/syd) think I'm crazy, but Adelaide has the lifestyle that suits me best. I like all the other major cities, and can see why benefits in all of them, but to everyone needs to work out what works for their own personal situation and preferences.

@@Rhythmattica Nice to hear! I would actually really consider Hobart too if I didn't have some family in Adelaide - the access to Tasmanian nature looks incredible. We'll definitely make trips to Sydney when we want a bit of that big city atmosphere, but for the most part, the 'big country town' suits me just fine 😂. A factor in that is also affordability. If money was no object, I'm sure there are beautiful little pockets of Sydney that offer space, beauty and convenience, but I feel like that is now reserved for the multi multi millionaires, or those inheriting wealth. It is what it is.

When we were in Sydney last year we used opal cards & found public transport fairly easy to use & much cheaper compared with the UK. Being in a different country for the first time & city we didn’t know, we also found the transport staff at the stations really helpful. AND...we were definitely impressed by the cleanliness of the trains & buses 👌

@That Johnston Life most definitely & I have only experienced London transport on very few occasions. As for helpfulness, we travelled from the South Coast up to Darlington back in October. So changing at Waterloo to King's Cross, absolutely no idea where we were going, and hardly any staff to be seen. Those we did find, were unfortunately not very helpful & we almost missed the connection. It was extremely stressful 😔

Now you don’t even need Opal card. If you had any visa or mastercard, all public transport will accept it just like Opal. That includes train, ferry, lightrail, bus. And better yet, if you had Apple Wallet, you can tap your phone or smart watch without needing to authenticate anymore.

Perth, a country on its own, voted number 1 place to live by Australians, Lonely Planet, Forbes and others. Perth is closer to civilisation than the Eastern States, who have....New Zealand and each other, but you're all far apart anyway. Perth, where a long weekend is Bali, Singapore etc. Asia, Africa, Europe are only a direct flight away. Perth, the same time zone as most of the world's money. Perth, considered to be the most beautiful modern, clean and sunny city in the world. It is the freeway capital of Australia, trains, free buses in the city area, transport is so easy very few people are more than half an hour away from the hundreds of beaches. No toll roads! Weather? The AVERAGE is 8 hours of sunshine over 365 days of the year. Just don't tell anyone.

In WA there is a particularly large amount of people who emigrated here from the UK and New Zealand and don’t seem to have an issue with the distance from the east. Our houses are affordable, employment plentiful and very well paid, living costs are similar to the east and as many want to live near the beach it is much more affordable to do this than on the east coast. I think advising people not to at least consider WA is a mistake and limits their opportunities.

Love this collab! What a fun and informative idea. Everywhere in Australia has pros and cons really. Sydney has way better public transport. I never had a car the whole 13 years I was in Sydney (moved back to SE Qld 18 months ago). Didn't need a car in Sydney as I lived about 20 mins from the city. Brisbane is cheaper though rent and otherwise. It's a good medium - it's not as crazy busy or expensive as Sydney/Melb but it's not as quiet and slow and Perth or Tasmania (and not as remote. It's well connected to the rest of the country flight wise, cheaper). Melbourne will find itself getting more expensive still now that the population is starting to exceed Sydney. (Melbourne people love to "beat" Sydney on everything but highest population is not Something to be envious of. Everything just goes up. Ok I'm off to part 2 with Maz and then Part 3 with Kaitlyn 🙂.

We have a housing crisis in Melbourne at the moment and I’m pretty sure in Sydney as well , not sure about other cities . Sky high rents and a shortage of properties. People are forced out of their homes because they can’t afford the rent. Aussies are homeless and those that have a home are in mortgage stress with constant rising of interest rates. The government are always asking for skilled foreign workers and we also have foreign students as well but not enough housing. I’m not against foreigners coming but we really urgently need to fix this!
@ThatJohnstonLife
@ThatJohnstonLife Жыл бұрын
To say their is a crisis across a whole city I think is an incorrect sweeping statement which doesn't help the problem. There are areas within all cities that are easier and more difficult to find rental properties. Whilst immigration is also a factor in this, it isn't the main reason, nor is limiting or stopping migration going to fix the problem for people the most at need. Have you ever considered that this rental crisis story could be perpetuated by a media, who are looking to divert attention away from real issues or where people aren't prepared to address problems head on? After all, it's not like the Australian media has ever done anything like that before is it?

It also depends what job you have. If you are in medicine or nursing, Melbourne or Sydney are probably the cities you would want to go to but if you are the adventurous type you might want to try some regional hospitals. Queensland appears to be the place everyone goes to now. A number of my nursing friends have moved to Brisbane, they love it. So probably depends on what lifestyle you want. I think anywhere in Australia is great.❤

I love these collaborations. Sydney is the most fun, with the most options and the best climate. But it is too exxie. Melbourne has footy, and food, and access to the Great Ocean road. But it's a little bit pretentious. Brisbane is great. Relaxed with big city options. But it's full of Queenslanders. Perth is the same with the bonus of beaches. But it's cheaper to fly to Bali. Adelaide is cruisy. Too cruisy sometimes. Canberra is central and has lots of good jobs. Hobart is historic and beautiful. But it's cold and wet. Darwin is too hot and humid. Which is why I have never been there.

Noosa has everything you could ever want. It's top end of Sunshine Coast. Surf, sun and no traffic snarls. No more expensive than anywhere else and have every conceivable attraction hereabouts that is also found anywhere else. OK you won't get the Sydney Harbour Bridge or the Opera House but we have better beaches and no winter! And you can take a holiday to go see those sorts of things. Buy a car, even a small one so you don't have to rely on public transport which in all honesty is pretty crap here in sunny Queensland. Just don't be in the situation of needing to rely on it. Some people do well while most don't. Personally, I live in the Noosa Hinterland on acreage which for many people is unheard of but lots of people do it in this country. My road trip to Noosa is a whole 40mins easy driving through some very small villages on mostly country roads while the last few K's is near the beach. Makes for such a lovely day out after a hard week's work. And yes we all have to work to pay for our delights. 😁

Very hard to answer this, how many people have lived all over Australia? And how else could you truely compare, unless you had? It’s natural, to speak on the few cities/areas you have experienced. We all have bias. A video supposedly about a whole country, but actually is about three people’s perceptions of the three different areas of Australia, that they happen to live in. Valid, in themselves, but not as a survey of the whole country, to help other people, decide. So many places to live in Australia, every area has pros and cons. Most are not mentioned in this video.

If you want to be surrounded by Brits, then Perth is the town for you. Thirteen percent of Perth's population is British born, making it by far the most British city. WA does see itself as being a bit different to the rest of Australia; there's a belief that people from the Eastern States are a bit arrogant and make terrible political choices (privatising everything, allowing poker machines in pubs, building toll roads etc.) WA is also filthy rich, public utilities are cheap because we reserve 13% of our gas for domestic use and most public services are Gov owned. Public transport is also really good in Perth, the train network is huge, frequent and very cheap.

Crime exists everywhere. My family feels much safer where we are in Australia compared to where we lived in the UK. The main differences I find with crime in Australia are; Less reported and unreported violent crime When there is voilent/serious crime it seems they mostly catch the perpetrators Less antisocial behaviour (although it still occurs) from younger people, who seem to be on the whole more respectful If you or anyone else you know feels differently to my opinion, maybe you live in a sh*t area. All cities will have areas people would like to avoid. I'm in Perth, there are no "no go" areas that I am aware of, but certainly some suburbs you don't want to live in and some alleyways you don't walk down at 2 in the morning, otherwise crime is low, and it's mostly petty car break ins or burglary, very little attacks on people. OMG. Love this video…but no Melbourne! While I’m moving back to Brissie (which I also love but for different reasons), Melbourne has a special place in my heart as I lived there for a few years too. Hope you do a video down the line about some of the other cities too, like Adelaide ( boring!), Perth (are they even Australian?) Darwin ( just, why?) actually I could go on about every city…lol

Sydney is great, no doubt. I also don't think the Australian mindset would allow for a civil war. Too easy going. It’s un-Australian to care too much about what other people think And even if it did start a war, we'd all give up in the summer anyway

Sorry, you lost me early, 3 people that only seem to know about one fiftieth of Australia, trying to say which is the best CITY to live in, and doesn't mention Darwin, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart or Melbourne, I'm afraid just doesn't sound like you have a fair and unbiased opinion and the subject. Maybe when you have lived here for 20 years and seen more of the country you could try this again.

Its regularly rates very highly in standard of living though. Most of the hate for Canberra is based on stuff like weather or the beach, yet we get more sunny days than Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. Also as quick to the beach from Canberra as it is from Western Sydney.

Hang on how would you guys know the answer to this question...you live in QLD for goodness sake! I've lived in three different state and it really depends on what you want/need for the lifestyle you wish to live. Brisbane has NOTHING to offer me (lived there 2X). The Gold Coast is the crime capital of Australia and is very touristy, so no thanks. The Sunshine Coast is fantastic and I could live there, except QLD has too much corruption. The same is true for Melbourne (Dictator Dan), but I could easily live elsewhere in VIC. Perth is fantastic, but I'd have trouble deciding where to live, it's nice everywhere. NT, it's too hot. South Australia is great but is so far away from anywhere and the Govt. there sucks, having no idea how to run anything, so it's a no from me there.
