The way Spoons fit within the pub grub market it's similar to how Greggs fit into the pastry shop market. Cheap, fast, consistent, wide enough food/drink selection to keep most people in a group happy and decent enough quality that it isn't an issue. Plus there are enough that no-matter where you are going there will be one local to you. We all know it's not the best place to eat, but the same could be said for a lot of chain resturants and fast food places. It fills it's niche pretty well.

one of the most honest reviews where you just say if food is good or bad. Most of youtubers over exaggerate everything so it was pleasant to watch as i could see in you a positive attitude. Now, 2 things: 1) the bao you had you said it wasn't good, I think it just stayed too long in the microwave, i had some in the past and they were good. 2) about ciders, they sometimes have fresh ones, you see them in the cardboard boxes on the top of the fridge and usually they are nicer
@wherearewe-yt6 ай бұрын
Thanks! We always try to be as honest as possible when reviewing food, without trying to be TOO negative. No one wants to have someone talking smack about their favorite foods. Everyone has their own tastes. You're right about the bao bun. It was most definitely over microwaved. Someone else told us they get the buns sometimes as well, and that they've always been nice and soft. We'll have to try one of the fresh ciders next time!

People who rag on spoons are usually just entirely uninformed. They often just enjoy paying more for lower quality, badly prepared food from other chains. There are a scant few exceptions, but the vast majority of chain pub kitchens run in the same way. Frozen foods, hot holds, industrial microwaves/ovens, grills and fryers. I spent many years in the trade, spoons by far had the tightest standards, best pay, best opportunities and best training across the board. It's not even close. 🤷🏽♂️

In my home city centre we have three Spoons within 1/2 mile of each other and on Saturdays, particularly when my home football team is playing it is always best to order from the app to your table. I meet friends before we go to the game and the cost of having a few (or more lol) drinks with good mates is so available because of Spoons. Hi guy's great review and spoon's is always good value for money, I've got one around a five minute walk or a twenty minute walk home lol, if you don't want to break the bank and have a good night out with something cheap to eat you can't go wrong and if i fancy a full English breakfast i would often just walk down there, take care guy's 👋👋👋🙏🙏

The breakfast was amazing value, as far as we're concerned! Only £16 for three meals, with drinks and unlimited refills is fantastic. 😁 And we still can't believe how cheap the drinks were. If we lived in the UK and had one in our neighborhood, we'd go all the time! Thanks again for watching. We appreciate it! 😃

I’ve eaten in high end restaurants including the ivy but I also like spoons cheap and cheerful and unlimited hot drinks, fancy restaurants charge a lot for sometimes mediocre food. If your meal is not so good in spoons it’s not so painful when u have to pay.
@wherearewe-yt6 ай бұрын
Totally agree! We've eaten worse food, for nearly double the price in London. As you said, at least with Spoons, your wallet isn't going to suffer too badly. Also, we love cheap drinks. 😜

I read an article this week that exposed some of the more popular eateries for their shockingly high levels of salt in some kids meals. However, Spoons came out really well, since at least one of their offerings for kids had zero added salt.

Chips + curry sauce essential😂 my grandad wouldnt have done it but he retired in 1975 from his chip shop. It was a gold mine post war and i remember being out back with him cutting the potatoes with the machine as a 5yr old. My goto back then was scampi and chips

What you Canadians call bacon is probably more akin to our "streaky" bacon, made from pork belly, so has a lot of streaks of fat (hence "streaky bacon") and also crisps up very nicely. What you were eating here is what we call "back" bacon, made from pork loin, and is much leaner with just a bit of fat around the edges. The hash brown is a fairly recent addition to British breakfasts, so isn't really a traditional component. I'm from Scotland, and a traditional Scottish breakfast is very similar to the English version, with a few exceptions. Rather than hash browns, we usually have potato scones, or tattie scones as we refer to them, tattie being a Scots term for potato, We also have Lorne sausage, or square sausage as it's more commonly referred to in Scotland, we still include link sausages, the Lorne sausage is an added bonus. In addition, a Scots breakfast can often include sliced haggis, sometimes instead of black pudding, but sometimes as well as. If you are ever in Scotland, you should try a Scottish breakfast just to see how you compare it to the English breakfast. You definitely need to try Lorne sausage, as it's probably one of the top 5 foods that ex-pat Scots miss when they move abroad. You can also try our famous, or maybe infamous, deep fried Mars Bar, basically a Mars Bar dipped in batter then deep fried.

Anja lived in Scotland for about 5 years, but we've only visit together before we made the channel. We will likely visit within the next few months, and we will definitely have a Scottish breakfast! We like to try things that most other tourists don't feature in their videos!

Hi guys, again lol, watching your videos's again, binge watched the rest of your uk stuff, The hash brown thing, yeah its a breakfast item, alot depends on what your paying, making it filling for low price, Im going back to the 90's, when i used to travel from north england to London to work, We used to travel home on the A1 motorway dual carriage way from london, it took us all the way home, There was a porto cabin on the A1, truckers places really, but good for anyone, They used to have breakfast, from small to regular, then getting bigger, with chips, These were all name by roads, the A1 being the small the M1 being the next biggest, then the M4 and so on till you got to the M25, im not sure if the order is right, the bigger, the more additions you go, i have full english at home with my wife twice a week, we have hash browns, better than few chips on the side

For around the same price as a breakfast in spoons you can get a Toby all you can eat one. Their breakfast is ok, not knocking it, but the Toby one is better value - however the drinks at Toby are more expensive. For the other food, spoons is ok. Wetherspoons is what it is, we all know its not haute cuisine but its decent food (some things better than others) at a decent price and that's exactly the market they are aiming for and lets be honest, the breakfast is pretty good value even against corner cafe's, The price of drinks is superb compared with your average pub & great value especially with a meal.

The word is derived from the Proto-Germanic *bakkon, meaning "back meat". Meat from other animals, such as beef, lamb, chicken, goat, or turkey, may also be cut, cured, or otherwise prepared to resemble bacon, and may even be referred to as, for example, "turkey bacon". so yes canadian bacon and english bacon is the real bacon. we use back meat as opposed to belly which Americans use.

Just discovered your channel due to the Belfast episodes (I live in rural NI). Quick question for Brandon, is brown sauce a thing in Canada? Do you have the UK brands or Canuck originals?
@wherearewe-yt4 ай бұрын
@OfficialChris-di6bx Both! We have quite a lot of UK brands, but also Canadian brands that resemble UK brands. For example, I grew up with digestive biscuits, but the brand was called "Family Digestive". We also had versions of Jammie Dodgers and other biscuits. It was tradition in my family to put a Terry's chocolate orange in your stocking at Christmas time. We have a lot of Cadbury chocolate as well! I grew up using brown sauce (particularly HP Sauce) because my childhood best friends father was from the UK. I'm not sure how many people use it in their everyday life, but it has always been available! The more time we spend in the UK, the more similarities I find with things I grew up with. My grandfather on my mom's side was the first of his siblings to be born in Canada. The majority of his siblings and his parents were born on the UK, so even some foods I grew up with reflected that. Haha.

While the bao buns themselves should have been steamed, what did you think of the jackfruit filling? There was only a scant mention of the sauce, with the main focus being on the crunchy buns.
@wherearewe-yt7 ай бұрын
The buns kind of ruined it all! The filling was not bad, but for the price, there wasn't enough. For over £5, it's hard to justify. Especially when you consider that's more than we made for most of our breakfast items, which were much better. We lived in Asia for a few years, so we've had plenty of steamed buns in the past. I suppose that makes us harsher critics. Haha. Still glad we tried something different!
@melondster76956 ай бұрын
@@wherearewe-yt living in Asia would definitely give you a different perspective on quality. I'm more into the filling than the buns, as jackfruit is such a versatile fruit. I wouldn't pay over £5 for them, when there are many Asian eateries serving better!
