I played in a Boston-area band, and also knew Brad (although I could not call him a good friend). I actually saw him perform the year he died (when he was singing mostly a Beatles set). It's just too bad that nobody saw it coming. The seventies was a decade of really great album rock, and great rock anthems, and this song here, and this album, definitely rank among the best. Brad's voice and Tommy's guitar created an amazing new sound that sounds fresh and clear to this day.

So...I'm 54 years old and remember the "Boston" album when it came out. Foreplay/Long Time is my favorite track on the album. Now....I'm also an amateur guitarist who has picked up the instrument after many years away. Hearing this young man's guitar playing just about makes me want to pack it in and take up golf. And...he plays, bass, drums, and keyboards well enough to hit this song out of the park. And let me add a big "holy shit" to the lead singer. Seriously great pipes and touch on a difficult song. Bravo guys. This really made me smile.

This rendition of Boston Reminds me of a my USAF days in Okinawa, Japan. It is a long tail. I was stationed there for 6 years.. over time my reputation for caring for my Airman... as I was a step higher in rankage... LOL... I never knew. After 6 years there... I was leaving for the Pentagon, Hand selected to clean up a mess Eight years before saving the Tax payers $550,000 a year in in Phone and circuit bills... but I will never forget a Sergent from Boston and his band there... all USAF and perfectionist too... I was leaving and was invited to a club off base they played at off GATE 2, Kadena, Air Base... I could choose any Rock tune... RUSH, LED Zep, Styx, Boston... and they were perfectionist.. Absolutely Spectacular! Each Tune was as if in a recording studio... or off the original ... Spirit of Radio and This song too... they played to perfection for me.. I hated to leave for the Pentagon... Those guys are the best... too. Great Music is truly inspirational and Generational... Nothing can compare to what we had for musician in the 60's and 70's.... or even before in the 1700 or 1800... Music today SUX ever since... Big Bands...WTF happened? Anyway.. It is an experience I will never forget, better than going to a concert. Just being with people who really respect you as a person and you never knew how much you helped them.. sort of thing.. because in the Military.. you take care of each other.. as in.." Do unto others as you would do unto yourself". It works... wonderfully at times...we respected and worked great together... I love and miss you guys... 1997... Huuu Rahh.

GrandpappyJim Hey, idiot... positive criticism will actually help them get even better and more advanced in all areas of production. There's nothing wrong with pointing some things out that could be improved while at the same time appreciating their work, effort and great performance. And the sound IS a little thin, lacking some bottom, particularly on the drums, but still a great job. I've been a guitarist for 36yrs (in several bands) and have also done a lot of sound engineering, both live and in recording studios.
@laurajohnson40866 жыл бұрын
I loved it, but the guitar "sound" (not the playing) was a little too buzzy. Maybe he should have recorded through a Tom Scholz Rockman or a Marshall amp with a Scholz Powersoak. And just for those who will ask for "proof" and links ..... here ya go: SCHOLZ No. They were always done with a prototype of my Power Soak power attenuator, at low volume, through a standard cabinet close-miked with an Electro-Voice RE16. I was using mostly a Marshall head that sounded like doo-doo on its own, but with a Crybaby wah pedal, an EQ and these old Maestro Echoplex tape delays in front of it, it sounded really good. It was noisy as hell, so I’m sure that I was getting some preclipping before it got to the head. For guitars, I had two Gold Top Les Pauls that both sounded very similar, and that was it. www.guitarworld.com/features/interview-tom-scholz-recalls-making-boston-and-don-t-look-back

This song really touches his range, seriously, you should at least be in a cover band... also, Dale, dude, too much buzz in the distortion, dial it back from 11 to like 9 and you've got it nailed... I know Tom's amp settings and you've nearly nailed them for a strat, just compensate for the added midrange of the single coils and you'll get it. Otherwise, you got the album correct chord structure
