Johnny & Brad! Finally got a chance to visit Forest & Main five years after first seeing this video. Sadly they no longer operate at this location, having moved their pub to the main street in Ambler, and also having opened up a (2nd) taproom/location at their brewing facility on the outskirts of Ambler. Their fermentation stuff was really good. Also doing some barrel-aged stouts which were amazing. And yes, also still staying true to their roots and doing some classic British styles too (at least at their taproom… wasn’t able to visit the pub). Cheers!

Apologies for the slightly shonky sound during the tour! Jonny managed to mess up the mic on Jared! But it sorts itself for the sit down tasting.

I've been there a few times and their beers are on point. My wife who doesn't like the mix fermentation/funky beers found a few she really liked! If it wasn't a good ways out this would be a local spot for sure.

Just discovered your channel recently and as I watched I thought, these guys would love Forest & Main, little did I know you had already been. I grew up in Ambler and this has been a go to spot for me for years now. Kind of crazy to see its wider recognition

Super rad brewery. Mystic in boston used their own foraged yeast and had my favorite saisons. Alas they closed down. Great video about a very cool, unique brewery

I love that they converted a house into a brewery! It reminds me of Half Door Brewery in San Diego!

That looks killer. We should definitely watch for brave(r) breweries that go for styles which aren’t the most popular right now. Thanks for showing us this, I had no idea there were modern breweries doing anything like that, and that tap house looks amazing.

Great vid and really interesting brewery! Will definitely check them out if I get the chance. Are you planning on going to the Hudson Valley area? There you’ll find Plan Bee, which is also one of the most unique breweries out there. They have a really distictive flavour profile and source everything from their local area and their own farm. Cheers!

Aw man. I'm so happy that you guys visited Forest & Main! I'm also kinda sad that my "secret spot" is getting a lot of exposure now =). I kind of wish I heard more about what you guys thought of the British-style ales they've been serving up. When I visited England I was not of age, so I am very curious as to the quality of their cask ales versus the ones you have over in the UK. For me, their bitter ("Steeper Dive") was easily the best English Bitter I've had on cask in the US, though admittedly I have not many genuine interpretations of the style like this one was. What did you guys think of their hand-pumped ales?
@TheCraftBeerChannel5 жыл бұрын
We tried two while we were there. A session strength porter that was banging - in great condition, lots of lovely roasted notes - and the sour we tried in the video which was great too, though perhaps needed a bit more carbonation. Overall they seem to have interpreted the casks styles extremely well and learned how to look after them well too. Didn't get to try a bitter but on this evidence I bet it would be to style for sure.

I was more intrigued by their British-style Ales. I know the majority of British Craft Beer Breweries brew mostly American Pale Ales and American India Pale Ales with US Hops. However, I'm now starting to wonder what these guys', Yorkshire Corner Brewery's and Yards Brewing Company's takes on Traditional British/English Ales are like... Maybe Northern Monk should have collaborated with one of these Breweries on their Best Bitter rather than Other Half NYC?
@TheCraftBeerChannel4 жыл бұрын
So we had two cask beers while we were there - a wonderful roasty porter that was a very sessionable 3% and a mixed ferm saison which didn't work quite so well on cask but was still very tasty. I think that collab between other half and northern monk was just for the fun of it...not sure how much other half truly had to do with it given their (presumably) little experience! Would have been a great learning curve for them though and that is what collabs are all about.
@daveswinburne79464 жыл бұрын
@@TheCraftBeerChannel Ah! Nice one! Yeah, all great points well made. Shame about the Saison not really working on Cask though, maybe they should have just casked the Porter and kegged the Saison. I haven't tried the Northern Monk & Other Half 'Best Bitter'. Maybe I will at some point. However, I hope if those "Monks" decide to brew an English Pale Ale, it's with either Timothy Taylor's or Theaksons. ;-)

@@TheCraftBeerChannel Yards ESA at the brewery I would easily put up there with Fuller's ESB on cask within the M25, Yards often does other cask variants at their brewpub, like a coffee spruce beer that was amazing! It's why Philly is the best beer region in the USA hands down!
