Hypsometers are the collective name for many instruments made for measuring height of a tree, where some instruments like abney's level require trigonometric tables.

What is the difference between Bole Height and Crown height?

Bole height is the distance along the axis of tree between ground level and crown point. (crown point is the position of the first crown forming branch). and..... Crown height is the height of the crown as a measured vertically from the ground level to the point half way between the lowest green the lowest green branches forming green crown all round.
