I feel so happy for him. After 20 years or less , as long as my mother's still alive or after my retirement, whichever comes first, i will ordain as a monk in Thailand or any countries that have Theravada Buddhism, that is my biggest urge in this life.

I was in Sri Lanka for three years. In the larger part, I was a lukewarm buddhist with little practice and shaky knowledge in a severely toxic environment. On October 9th 2019 I finally left that backward house and on the 10th I moved to a Dhamma center, two hours from Colombo. I passed my time there in service and informal dhamma study, while waiting for my ticket to return to Philippines. I recall all this because this ordination occurred one the same morning I was adjusting to life in a dhamma center. Now its June 2020 and I'm looking back to the many things that happened in such a short time.

If a person is already a bhikkhu from mahanikya order but would like to ordain dhammayot does he need to completely disrobe and reordain?

Yes that's how we do it. He just disrobes the time of the ordination. We had the case 2 years ago with a thai monk, one of the 4 monks who ordained in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/inmbi36iibp2qsk. He had 4 rains-retreat, now he's been for 2 years as a Dhammayut monk. But one can also practice as a mahanikaya monk in a Dhammayut monastery without the need to reordain.

Dhammayut is characterized by a stricter application of the Vinaya (the rules of the monks), which tries to match the way of practice and the way of behaving that was at the time of the Lord Buddha. With the Dhammayut, there is the Forest tradition which also focuses on practicing meditaction in forests and secluded places as the Lord Buddha advised. Mahanikaya means "many sects", it was a gathering of everything that is not Dhammayut. So it's difficult to describe because of this diversity. Generally speaking, there are much more village and city monasteries in the Mahanikaya order and a less strict Vinaya applied.
