Forestella (Korean: 포레스텔라) is a South Korean crossover male vocal quartet formed through the JTBC singing competition Phantom Singer 2, which aired in 2017. They won first place on the show and officially debuted on March 14, 2018, with the album Evolution. "Scarborough Fair" (Child 2, Roud 12) is a traditional English ballad. The song, which is a variant of The Elfin Knight, lists a number of impossible tasks given to a former lover who lives in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. The "Scarborough Fair" variant was most common in Yorkshire and Northumbria, where it was sung to various melodies, with refrains resembling "parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme" and "Then she'll be a true love of mine." It appears in Traditional Tunes by Frank Kidson published in 1891, who claims to have collected it from Whitby.
The famous melody was collected from Mark Anderson (1874-1953), a retired lead miner from Middleton-in-Teesdale, County Durham, England, by Ewan MacColl in 1947. This version was recorded by a number of musicians in the 20th century, including the version by the 1960s folk rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, who learned it from Martin Carthy. - en.wikipedia.o...)

Thank you for your fantastic reaction to Forestella! There are some stories about this song Scarborough Fair..what I've read was this is a song from a ghost (soul) of a dead soldier. He asked the herbs growing on his dead body to deliver his message to his beloved girl in Scarborough Fair where was a big herb market. He asked the herbs to tell her impossible task "Tell her to make me a cambric shirt without no seams nor needle work" to make her give up waiting for his coming back as he's already unable as he's dead. Forestella sang like as messengers of this sad and beautiful story. Also there are symbols those herbs significated: parsley for comfort or to remove bitterness, sage for strength, thyme for courage, rosemary for love. There's some speculation that these four herbs were used in a tonic of some sort to remove curses. What I first heard was to remove memories..so I thought he (the dead soldier) wanted to remove the memory about him from his girl to make her not mourning for him any more. BTW I found those herbs cannot be grown in same areas in fact while on my researching for English references.. so it could be just for remembering recipe for turkey seasoning ingredients.

This is Forestella, a crossover group from Korea. They are the winner group in the Phantom Singer 2; an audition show to form a crossover quartet like il Divo from Korea. However as they have their own unique style, they won't be Korean il Divo, they will be the Forestella of the world! Forestella has sung great covers like Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions, Hijo de la Luna, Heal the World, the Sound of Silence, My Favorite Things, Champions (mash-up of Champs league theme and Champions by Jo SuMi), Nella Fantasia, Scarborough Fair..etc etc. At the Phantom Singer All Stars they sang Time in a bottle, Je suis Malade as well. Shape of You in English, Spanish and African Zulu is fantastic indeed. (But you need to be extra-careful when you use any video from JTBC which is very strict copyright claimer and blocks alot.) You can even see them dancing singing Smooth Criminal as well! And they broke the record of their own with Bad Romance which seems toxic version of their Lazenca Save Us, winning 5 trophies for King of Kings in a row in Immortal Songs. Forestella is a quartet of Ko WooRim (classical bass, intense abyss-deep low tone), Kang HyungHo (ex-research chemist, rock vocalist with soprano falsetto voice), Cho MinGyu (classical leggiero tenor, light boyish crystal clear tone) and Bae DooHoon (musical actor, 159th King of the Masked Singers, emotion convincer good at R&B, Pop). Each has distinct tone and style of singing, different charm. But all of them are famous as practice-freaks. They meet almost everyday to practice together. In a radio program the leader (Cho MinGyu) revealed it would be around 20 days they didn't meet in the year. Recently Bae DooHoon also said they don't meet 1~2 days in a month. I think this explains how their perfection can be executed. Don't miss their new m/v for Save our lives! It's full of wonders. Each of them is representing an element in the m/v.

I'm glad you enjoyed their cover of this beautiful song. Forestella is one of my latest discoveries. Each of the members has a great voice, but their harmony when they sing together is outstanding. Their group name is a mixture of "forest" and the Latin/Italian word "stella", which means star. So Forestella means a forest of stars. Their names from left to right in this video: Ko Woorim (classically trained bass), Kang Hyungho (countertenor and rock voice, no formal vocal training), Cho Mingyu (classically trained tenor and leader of the group), Bae Doohoon (tenor, musical actor). I hope to see more reactions to them on your channel. You can't go wrong with any of their performances. Some recommendations: Hijo de la luna, Je suis malade, Spread Silk on my heart, Inner universe, Time in a bottle, Nella Fantasia and of course their own beautiful song "Save our Lives" (the music video is a cinematic masterpiece).
