Hum from my experiences the floating mirror in the 503CW is longer because otherwise the top part of the image in the viewfinder will be cut off with longer lenses, especially when using extension tubes and bellows. The rest of the image is equally even on both cameras. The way that is works is that the longer mirror does not only flip, but also glides back a bit when the shutter is pressed. This also removes a bit of the mirror slap force and makes it slightly softer than on the 500C/M. Also the 503CW does support TTL by dialling in the ISO value on the side. This controls the flash.

Absolutely beautifully done. Just wonderful detailing. I have a 1987 500 C/M and now plan getting a 503 CW, I have located a CW which is a Millenium which is year 2000 but it costs 3800 dollars. Would prefer a 2012/13 standard CW. Bless you. Cyrus India

I own a 1965 model 500ELM with a fixed 50mm lens. In England at that time purchase tax was 55% so on a 2500 pound camera you had to pay almost another 1300 in sales tax. The government edict was that if the camera was for professional use no tax was due. Hassleblad made a range of cameras with fixed lenses to avoid tax. Problem with the ELM was that it was totally motor drive and if the battery ran out rhe whole thing froze up and had to go to the shop to be fixed. Fabulous camera and a version of the ELM went to the moon and was used for all the moon pix.

Good comparison, one more information regarding 500cm vs 503 regarding the build quality, in the very late 500cm and all of 503cx and cw, the internal anti reflective coating was changed, 500cm uses uneven texture paint while 503 uses Matt foam/plastic material. This later plastic material ages easily and develop cracks and dust, this can be problematic for people who uses digital backs as dust and chips can get on the sensor. 500cm does not have the problem.

This is a great info. I do have a 500CM and it vignette badly when I use 135mm bellows lens and was planning to replace it with a 503CW. Does 501CM also has the same problem ??

Truly your depth, feel and connect with the Blad are a pure at-one-ment. Your photographs were out-of-this-world. You shoot from the twin places that ultimately matter most your own Heart and mind’s inner Eye. I’m keen to get a very clean 500 CW possibly a latest 2012/13 with the standard 80mm Zeiss Planar. Can you help me find one? I live in India. God bless you, Cyrus

I am shooting the 503 Cxi and I am seriously thinking about buying a 503 Cw body. I have four film backs a 50mm and 150mm lenses and a nice prism finder. Everything in mint condition but I want 2 cameras one for a backup and as an extra to loan to someone shooting with me. I love shooting this system and use my hand held Sekonic meter for great exposures.

Hi Travis. Thank you for the presentation. I am seriously considering the purchase of some form of Hasselblad. Most likely it will be a 500C or CM but I have seen references to the EL/M being quite affordable. Have you any experience with them? I presume the weak points would be the added weight and reliance on power for the film advance and shutter.

Your 500 C/M made in (UR) 1978 & 503 C/W is (ER) 1998. A great site for Hassey history & info is Hasselblad Historical (www.hasselbladhistorical.eu/). You can date your Hassey gear w/their calculators. Just plug-in the 2 letters in your SN#s. You can find everything historical about Hasseys. A highly recommended Hassey repair shop that is owned by a Hassey factory trained repairman is David Odess in Maine (www.david-odess.com/repair.html). 1967 28 minute interview w/Victor Hasselblad (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWSlnaKroa9kn7c).

Nice video. I'm trying to decide whether or not to invest $845.00 for a Hasselblad C on Ebay. I have three medium formats already, the Mamiya C33, Mamiya RZ67 Pro ll and the Bronica ETRS. I'm sort of a camera collector, I guess you could say and I'm longing to add the Hasselblad to the collection. I use them all along with my 35mm cameras, including the Leica M3. Would you purchase the C or go for the CM? You mentioned that the viewing glass isn't removable on the C and it is rather dark. Is that something serious to consider? Thanks for any advice you may render.

All jasselblad owners should know that the shutter, lens, most be mechanically syncronized.if you take the lens out wile the lends is in zinc ND fire it w o the lends ND take the back after you fire it ..you will get it stuck..so don't do it ! Now you need to release it from the pi. I side the dark box..lol

PS., up till 19:00 min. the shot is OVER exposed, all that silver is reflecting too much light!!, try exposure compensation, maybe 0.3-> 1 stop + side, OR use an ND filter on the lens :)))

Not BARN DOORS, but AUXILLARY SHUTTER. ( the 500 C had a synchronisation at this second shutter). Do not forget to clean the A12 before putting a new film in. A Pro shade is named a COMPENDIUM; it is a must. You need it, to put all the CC, LBA, LBB, SP and ND filters in; about 60 different filters. At the front of the compendium the inserts for long focus optics are put in. Macro filters do not exist, it is a CLOSE UP lens. Filters and CU lenses are made by Zeiss of Schott glass. Mamiya C330 is no fun toy. Saying that, does not make you smart.
