How are you liking the fecon head on your 299 compared to the FAE? I busted a holder off my FAE and been having a hard time getting the head balanced and back in spec. Right now it’s close but the cab has a hum in it.

I only use my FAE if my Fecon is down. And even then sometimes I just take a day off while I wait for parts for the Fecon to be delivered. The Fecon is at least 30-50% more productive than the FAE at 6 inch dbh and under. Above that the Fecon stands on its own. The fae can’t carry enough momentum through big cuts and needs to recover much much sooner than the Fecon. The Fecon Blackhawk Fusion is even better by 30-40% over a stock Blackhawk.

@@TheTreeShop Thanks for the info. I think your FAE head is a 150 size (smaller width drum)? Mine is a 180, maybe that plays some factor in the comparison? It does look like the fecon is more dialed in with your machine. It seems like that fecon has an annoying loud pump whine though. Does that pump noice get old after a while and bother you?

My fae is a UML/SSL-175 BL. The Fecon pump is definitely louder but I suspect that is because it is more “exposed” compared to the FAE. I run noise canceling head phones regardless just to kill the noise so I prefer the Fecon level of volume. It stands out better. The FAE is so quiet I have to use the pressure gauge.

How do you prevent teeth coming off Mulcher? Like what happened to you

This was just really hard dead oak wood. That plus bolts that are getting older, 4-5 sets of knives on these bolts. I bet it was a good combination of teeth were worn down to the point they were hammering instead of cutting and the hard wood I was hitting only made it worse. This is the first knife I have thrown on a Fecon and I have over 1000 hours on Fecon heads.
