I'm back at the controls today all by myself on the Wallenstein LXT95 Log Loader Trailer. No telling how well I"ll do without someone to help guide me today on only my second time ever operating this new trailer. Although the controls seems pretty straight forward, just like anything, there's a lot to learn. Here goes nothing! With any lucky I"ll be able to load up a few logs and transport them down to my sawmill where you'll see me unload them without issue. Be sure to check out some of the features of the log loader trailer that may have been missed like the sliding axle. The logs I'm loading are 13 feet long in this video and balance nicely with the axle all the way back and hooked to my tractor. Glad you're all along for the ride, today sure doesn't feel like work after playing around with such a nice piece of equipment.

Wow! I could watch that thing work all day... Nice addition to your arsenal. One observation/suggestion for you and Wallenstein. Where the grapple decks to the trailer for transport, I would add a piece of wood or heavy rubber mat to protect the 2 pieces so the trailer frame and grapple don't rub raw. I can see wear spots developing quickly.

Looks like a lot of fun plus it saves the logs from the dirt. You might consider starting the engine and letting it run slow on the way out to where you are going to use it. That will warm up the hydraulic oil and be a little bit easier on the pump and motor.

Sandy, I built my own log loader by mounting it on a five ton truck with long wheelbase. I used the mini excavator top half on the truck frame mounted up high where its setting on the top of the cab guard. I like the fact that you have something but for me, too complicated. I like excavator controls so its all on just two levers and your total controls of side movements, rotation of grapples and of course the main boom and the jib boom (jib is the short boom that goes from the main to the grapples) I had buttons on the handles of the two controls to open or close on one and the other turned the grapple making it quick and easy for me. My truck was a dedicated log truck and could haul legal highway loads. I had ran excavators for years so learning these controls was just like falling off of a log.... "we all remember our first time falling off of a log in the woods and having to dig our way out of that embarrassing moment when everyone sees ya fall and once you are okay then its a good laugh at you. I had trusted my "caulk boots" and the bark peeled off sending me about fifteen feet down through all the thick brush breaking the fall but ripping my shirt and pants up. Even I laughed once the pain settled down a bit. I seen that nice grab on two logs at once, thats the right thing to do as you gain confidence in it. I can not speak for your machine but I did tell you how to run your excavator and it not be so jerky... that is when you open two controls at once breaking the high pressure of the oil in the hoses. It just might be the same with this as it is quite jerky ....... about the only other way to fight something this quick is having a foot control like a car or pickup. Then once the machine is doing what you want, you can increase the engine RPM's to match the movements... just keep practicing and you'll be a pro in no time.... your quite dedicated to learning new things and I just know you will enjoy it.... even after a limb or something does slap you or get a dent in the machine... its pretty tough built so that will take some doing. No need to ask how I know, I took the door off of my truck getting too cocky.

you are doing awesome and grinning is allowed, even encouraged. Good catch on dropping your outriggers at beginning of video. We found out pretty quickly how important that was. You don't even want to swing the boom sideways without the outriggers deployed. We even have an acronym, a short memory checklist of items we check before using the loader and before moving it. For yours it could be something like ''HOLAB'' for Hitch pin, Outriggers, Lock pin, Axle position, Brake lock. Whatever works for you... an acronym, a printed list or a simple flow from front to back. Just a suggestion as it is so easy to forget something and do expensive damage on injure yourself. Keep on smiling my friend. oups, was forgetting... I personally would shy away from loading the mill directly off the loader. I much prefer unloading on a log deck and rolling gently onto the mill.

It does take awhile to get smooth operating. But once you get it will flow smooth. It looks like the boom and stick is opposite of an excavator. I have the exact same machine you have except mine came with a winch I don’t know the exact age of the one I have I’ve had it for seven years it was used when I got it. I use it to load my firewood processor it will pick up the 25 foot logs and put them on there one at a time. My logger tells me the tri-axle truck brings me know less then 20 tons of wood Per load last season 2022 I processed 40 loads I usually do between 40 and 50 per year I have had to re-weld some stuff and buy a few new parts for it I do not Believe it is Any fault of the manufacturer as I never move the trailer it just sits in a permanent spot to load that processor the trailer really is a beast it is well-made and I could see a normal operation just moving logs this thing lasting for 30 years

Hi Sandy, Nice piece of equipment. I never operated anything like that before, so I am not trying to give you advice. If I was loading the logs on the trailer, I would put the end of the log that is lower towards the front of the trailer. I think that would make it easier to bring them up to the guard. Maybe someone with experience can comment on that? P.S. It nice to see that different equipment supplier are realizing that you showcase the equipment you use very well and they can benefit from that.

Kind of makes me think of the arcade machine games where you operate a claw like grapple to pick up a toy of some kind some more expensive ones actually had useb,e things like watches pocket knife jewelry ect actually cost more to play the machine to get than what the prize was worth other than the satisfaction of actually getting out lol lol lol

SANDY! Hey, ya did great! It's obvious your excavator experience came thru today. You watched "the bucket" - the grapple - instead of your hands as you loaded logs. What you said at the end of the video is something I was also thinking... how/where to position your new machine to load logs onto the sawmill. Take care, bro, and we'll see you on the next one...........

You did good yes you still got some learning to do with it but you can not teach experience you got to earn it by doing it yourself one of the hard part is the balance of the weight so your logs stay even when you go up but that comes with experience of judging the weight so great job keep at it and you will be next to the pro soon have a great day

Hi Sandy. Great bit of kit and some impressive handling for a ‘newbie’! Lots of benefits. Looks like a fair overhang, could you attach a trailer extension to give more stability?
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy Жыл бұрын
I'd imagine you could extend it if necessary. I"m thinking they kept the log loading area at 8' to keep the weight under control for UTV's to tow in the woods and to allow for easy maneuvering in the tight bush.

@@sawingwithsandy I think you are right, but maybe the little tractor would cope well with an extra section of trailer and maybe more wheels. Starting to sound like a big job though ;) Going to be interesting to see it in use while you are in felling and collecting mode ;) Cheers Ray (UK)

I've watched a truck-mounted rig like your trailer. The operator is able to flick the clamp and grab branches and/or trunks with it to hold the piece while someone cuts it. I just wonder if that's somethine your rig would be able to do? Maybe the weight of a whole tree might be too much for yours though? Just a thought for the future.
@sawingwithsandy
@sawingwithsandy Жыл бұрын
Hi Grace, I'd imagine depending on the size of the log/tree that may be the deciding factor. I'm pretty new to it but it's seeming like it can do a lot of different maneuvers
@carld3184
@carld3184 Жыл бұрын
I have seen them lay the log crosswise across the other logs in the trailer that way the log is supported by the trailer not just the grapple. Then the shorter cut off section of log is loaded and the process is repeated for really long logs.
@CW1116

Looks like fun to operate and I'm sure you'll get faster just like a backhoe operator or someone who's great in a skidsteer. That said, I think I'd have saved my $25,000 and gotten a trailer with sides and a tractor grapple. The tractor, IMO, would be faster and a great grapple is in the $1500 to $2500 range. That's just my opinion though.

hello Sandy. For practice, do you think turning down the rpm's so that the machine does not react so fast could work? Have good days!
@PapaRug.58
@PapaRug.58 Жыл бұрын
It takes practice and repetition and less quick moves of joystick controls There maybe a way to control the speed of the swivel head so it’s not so aggressive when activated. But more control time and you will be proficient at controls 😊😊

I bet if you throttle back your engine a bit the motions wouldn’t be so jerky. I had a factory backhoe on a old massy Ferguson tractor. It called for 540 at the PTO when the backhoe was in us. I just found it too hard to control. When I decreased to 500, the motion was much smoother with very little decrease in power or speed. Something to think about.
