My question is what happens when the cops stop him ? Is it illegal to have a bed in your van¿?
@CanIHasThisName5 жыл бұрын
@@riverdaletales8457 Not illegal to have a bed in your van, it's illegal to be in it while someone is driving in most places, unless it's a caravan or a bus. It's not illegal to live in a van, but some places regulate where you can live/sleep. Vehicles that are essentially camping vehicles may need to be parked in private places, such as camping/trailer parks or private property (which you either own or have a permission to be there). It's the same thing as not being able to just set up a tent anywhere you please. Some stores/malls are not happy to have vehicles parked up on their parking lots 24/7, most people will call police on a vehicle that's parked nearby their house for too long. Towns want to prevent people "moving in" with their vehicles mostly because of the very common poor behaviour, and cities want to prevent grey camping grounds of vehicles because they tend to become ghettos which tend to increase criminality.

I love your little portable garden - very cool and creative idea! You might want to look into trying sprouts too ! You can get stuff like alfalfa, brown lentils, radish seeds are some good ones. Just takes a mason jar and some cheesecloth and a rubber band , and a quick rinse with clean water twice a day and you can have fresh greens every 4-5 days generally. a couple of small spoonfulls of seed will generally give you a jar full, enough for a couple of meals I find! I don't have a van (yet) but I;ve done this with a plastic nalgene bottle strapped to the outside of a backpack on a week or 10 day trip. Fresh greens were great half way or so through!

I like the upgrades that you have made to the van. Maybe you should think about putting window tinting on the window next to your bike. If you use the limo tinting, people will not be able to see in and be tempted to break in and steal your bike. For that matter maybe you should consider a little extra security. People will not be tempted to seat stuff and break in if they cannot see what is inside. I have never had any experience with the instant. I have a ton of experience with crockpots. The nice thing about that is that you can start it just before work. When you get back, dinner is done and smells terrific. There are a ton of recipes for crockpots. Set it at low and go to work. I did it all the time. The fire extinguisher idea is great. I would consider a bigger extinguisher because the small ones run out very quickly. Or you could stock multiple small ones. Do you have any USB fans for the summer or even any bigger fans? That might help the heat. Also, mosquito netting over any openings that do not have screens. It seems like that overhead fan will help as well. Hope these suggestions help or at least getting you thinking about alternatives.

For food - well, if you can get to the grocery store daily you don't need to worry too much, but I would take full advantage of that freezer at work if you need to freeze a thing or two!

One thing about living in the woods that I like over living in a vehicle is that I could solar cook, which I purchased over 5 years on ebay. This cut my cost significantly. This was a parabolic cooker. Later I added a tube cooker. Since the tube cooker are a lot smaller and this is something you can concerned in reducing cost. It works like an oven. So you can make biscuits and corn bread, cakes, nuggets, etc.

What do you do for maintenance? Do mechanics care about the mods? I'm asking because I get the impression 'stealth dwelling' is at least frowned upon legally.
@bernardl44415 жыл бұрын
@@charleslindeman2169 I've done all my own maintenance up to this point. Mechanics shouldn't have any issue though since all the mods are usually on the interior. As far as stealth dwelling being frowned upon, as long as you don't stay in the same place for an extended time and avoid spots where you stand out you should be ok. It's easy to blend in with a stealth minivan. Cops won't bother you unless someone calls it in or they're doing a sweep of an area. Even then they'll just ask you to move.

That cooking setup of yours gives me the heebeegeebies. One split second is all it would take. Dont mean to be down on you, I admire your good sense and resilience, but I hope u never zone out with a live flame so close to your body. I couldn’t do it. I wonder whether your battery setup cope with a small instantpot?. Element Van Life guy uses a Kodiak and Instapot combo quite successfully, it would seem. Alternatively I know of 12 volt slow cookers on the market and 12 v kettles for boiling water. All the best for now 🌷🌷

It really fun and interesting to see a person do this, who is not rich.. Because many of these videos you see people who buy some new vehicle for somewhere between 200.000-500.000$, then they proceed to spend same amount on the interior. I mean sure, everything is possible if you are rich. It's nice to see this is viable for the ordinary person.
