Rhys, you have a lot of potential. I would also say there is nothing you can do that we haven't all done before (and still do). Knifes, fats, slices, hooks and duffs. Just watch Dave's channel! The advice I would give is play golf holes backwards, especially with 2 shots a hole. How can you get on a par 4 in 3 and make a nett birdie? If you work out what you want for your third shot, be it a chip from a flat lie all the way to a full wedge then you can work out what you want for your second shot which will dictate what to take off the tee. Believe me when I say the fairway is a huge wide space you can't miss when you have a 5 iron tee shot. And that breeds the confidence. I spent my first 2 years playing golf with nothing bigger than a 3 iron and then I introduced the woods when I felt they would improve my score and not make it worse. I feel the need for a video. Dave, don't give up your day job!

How’s he playing now ? I enjoyed watching someone at this handicap as it’s Lyon’s oh where I will be when I start He looks like a strong guy, perhaps a couple of practice swings first could help focus what power to use on the real swing . That’s the main thing that stood out to as a newbie that can’t play 😄 Greetings from Scotland 🏴

Great to see a guy making the same mistakes that I'm making. I also notice that aiming is done 100% wrong! I do the same thing. In my mind, I know where it's going. But the way this guy (and I) position the body, it's forcing the ball where it's aimed at. We need to be aiming the body and the leading edge to where we want it to go. I hope that makes sense. We need to aim better, while hitting it purely. :)

1ST hole, RHYS should have used 5 or 6 iron for 2ND shot in order to be short of bunker. 2ND hole, he should have moved more towards right tee marker instead of being in the middle. 3RD hole, looked like his body was pointed to the right on hitting tee shot. GREAT job on bunker shot and 1 Putt on last hole. That's a Sand Save and a Bunker Stat for the books.

Just came across this channel - nice to see content based here in the Perth metro area. Sun City looks nice - seems that you pay roughly the same for 9 holes there as we do for 18 holes where I play at Hillview course in Maida Vale. But in terms of course quality, I guess you get what you pay for and SC would be appreciably better.

Why on earth did you allow him to hit his second shot on a par 5 to get into a bunker, knowing full well he had two shots to get there and he’s a 36 HCP which most likely can’t play bunker shots well?
@ForetoFourGolf2 жыл бұрын
I can't recall if it made it to the edit, but I certainly did have this conversation with Rhys. My advice was to take a mid iron, short left of the green, and that the risk in going for the green was he would end up in the bunker. He was very confident in the shot, so I let it slide...I really should have put my foot down but sometimes we have to learn from experience!

Did the "caddy" never notice where he is aiming with his feet off the tee box? He tells him to align to something, but he always aims well right of that, I think it would save him so many shots and recoveries if he was told he is aiming to much to the right.
@ForetoFourGolf2 жыл бұрын
Perhaps so, but I’m not a coach, it was the first time I’d seen Rhys play so I didn’t really have a handle on his swing. Also if we are being really picky, caddies aren’t allowed to correct alignment…that’s why they can’t stand behind a player while they are hitting
@iceblade5692 жыл бұрын
@@ForetoFourGolf I know rule 10 .2b(4), but this was not a competitive match. And the tone of the video seemed to be helping this guy, not coaching, but helping like a caddie does, don't have to stand behind someone to see he is hitting it straight right and not fading it. So caddie can after the shot say to his player "maybe check your alignment or ball placement, shot went straight there". Mostly high handicappers fade or slice, this guy hits it straight where he is aiming, that's rare for a 36hcp. If he sorts his aiming he'll go down in handicap extremely fast.
@ForetoFourGolf2 жыл бұрын
I’ll concede I was a little hasty in reply, I can’t recall but I likely said something off camera to Rhys, or maybe even I didn’t pick it up, equally probable. I do know that in the time that has passed since we filmed this his handicap has unsurprisingly dropped, so you were dead right there!

@kyle381000 Жыл бұрын
I don't know that you're doing Rhys any good by condoning shots that could put in him into hazards. Yes, he was able to hit the ball 185m, but that put him in a bunker that he was ill-equipped to get out of very well. He would have been better advised to lay up to a comfortable distance in the middle of the fairway where he would probably have had a flat level lie. At this point in his development, he needs to avoid hazards and difficult shots more than anything else because he has not developed a proper short game. Beginners often believe that they get better by scoring more birdies, therefore they keep trying to make them and run up big numbers. They need to be shown that lower scores come from making fewer mistakes.
@ForetoFourGolf Жыл бұрын
This video was a while ago now, but I assume you mean on the first hole we play. I couldn’t agree more with you, he had no business going for the green with his second, and when I said he would have to accept being in the bunker as a real possibility (after he told me he can’t play out of bunkers) I hoped he would realise for himself. He didn’t, and the rest was, well, a learning experience for the lad.

@ForetoFourGolf4 ай бұрын
That’s the 36 hcp trap. It was probably that he once hit a 290m drive downhill downbreeze in the middle of summer so he thinks it is possible. And he genuinely did hit it a long way, we just couldn’t be sure which direction
