I guess I have super mixed feelings about Kira lol. I mean, she is literally Julie and Blaire mashed into one, and I am upset that she is not a doll of color. I was really expecting a doll of color that is just disappointing. I LOVE HER MEET OUTFIT MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE!! She is really similar to Lea, but I think that this story is slightly more creative than Lea. I don't think that I will be getting her, but I love the camping outfit :) -meg

Personally, I think Kira is kind of basic and is not unique at all. She looks so similar to a bunch of other dolls and her story is really similar to Lea’s. I’m also really disappointed she’s not a doll of color. There hasn’t been an Asian GOTY in 15 years, but there have been white dolls three years in a row...that’s just not right. I was really hoping for an Asian doll. Overall, Kira’s an okay doll, but I won’t be getting her because I already have dolls that are similar to her. I have to admit, though, her collection is pretty cute!

i think it's really cool that they made the setting be australia! i've always wanted to go there lol. she's a pretty doll, but like you said, she looks a lot like julie and they used the josefina mold AGAIN which was kind of disappointing. she also seems like she could easily be replaced by a truly me. i did like how she struggles with some issues, to make her more realistic and relatable as well. overall, i think she's a pretty doll and her story is pretty unique. :) ~lillie

I thought we would definitely have a doll of color because of BLM which happened in the summer. I personally do like her. But I agree with a lot of people she does look like Blaire and Julie mashed into one. I think her storyline is a lot like Lea's. Which I liked but we have already heard it before even if it was 6 years ago. Her outfits are creative but I personally am on the fence about them because American Girl tends to have a lot going on with their outfits they always have to have more than one thing going on. I do like her a lot she just looks a lot like a truly me doll I could get. I like it that she faces difficulties. I am glad that American girl has not done any mix and match outfits with her. (I believe) I do not like the mix and match outfits I would prefer just one outfit. I know that is how American Girl makes some extra cash and a lot of people like it but It can be very expensive. Like Courtney's mix and match outfits are like $70. One of the outfits are $104 if you buy all of the pieces. I know a lot of people have different opinions than I do I just wanted to share my thoughts and views on her.

I got a Kira Bailey ad before watching, I wish AG had a POC goty. In 2021 Ag will bring back contemporary characters and there this be a POC character there. In 2022 I hope there will be a POC goty THAT IS UNIQUE, like dark skin, freckles, NO ADDY MOLD, one brown eye other eye blue, and red hair. They also need to remove permapanties and zipties, I want to customize my first Ag doll.

Ahhhh. I’m really disappointed in this goty she’s pretty yeah and her outfits and stuff are cute but. I would love to see a girl that was from Africa with really dark new skin and face mold. Or a girl who have long curly red hair. Or maybe a girl who is native to Alaska (I’ve lived in Alaska and the culture their is so beautiful and it would really give Alaskan natives more recognition) Maybe a girl from Samoa with a whole new face mold and hair texture. More Characters from Aisa. Maybe one from Japan who is into the harajuku street fashion that would be so cool to see. Or maybe someone from the Philippines? Maybe someone from India! I don't know if it's just me but I would love to see girl of the year dolls with disorders like Autism, ADHD, DID, OCD, etc. I think it would be good for girls or teens who have those and make them feel not alone. It can also educate people of those disorders. Idk but that's just what I think.

My guess is that this was decided on at the beginning of 2020 with the Australia fires so I can understand that. Honestly I think its nice and appeals to the many animal lovers. Hopefully this also gives AG a chance to really develop a POC doll so that it is not rushed like Gabriela was.

To me it's not even the fact she isn't a doll of colour, I am used to that and don't expect her to be, it's the fact she has the most overused facemold in the goty line irks me so much, like come on AG, Joss was stunning witrh her new face, why do you always go back to your safety net. I have traveled in both Australia and New Zealand, I can get her story. AG is bringing attention to the wildfires that killed so much of the animal population last year. They also are addressing climate change. However, AG has deviously snuck in to Kira's story her lesbian aunts that run the sanctuary. There were s an illustration in the first book of them getting married!!!! I disapprove of this! I believe teaching our children about such private and controversial sexual issues ought to be done by parents. I had to explain this issue to my 8 year old granddaughter who was totally unaware and innocent of this subject matter. She was shocked and thought it was disgusting. AG did respond to my very angry letter of disappointment by saying they are trying to become more diverse. If they want to be more diverse, then you are correct about the limited dolls of color and racial backgrounds. They should attempt this instead of trying to teach sexual orientation!!!! Let play be play! Let our girls learn about other cultures etc. Young kids today have so much on their plates they should not have to start wondering if they are gay at the age of 6!!!!!! I did order Kira and all her stuff except for the animal clinic. The tent is absolutely gorgeous and can sleep 2 dolls. I do read the books that come with the dolls. A writer was sent to a wildlife sanctuary in Australia and stayed with the family who manages it. She worked directly with animal rescue and care so I felt this was researched fairly well. Kira's will have a stop motion series like Joss's. I am a doll collector of over 20 years and have many types of dolls beside AG. Your videos on doll repair and customising are awesome!!!!!

I know this isn’t related to the video but I need help! So I was washing my American girl dolls hair and she was wearing a orange robe. Then later I realized that it stained her back, neck and shoulders an orange. I need help on getting the colour off of the cloth part of the body. This is so disappointing. There are like 20 other dolls that look exactly like her. She looks exactly like Julie. American Girl needs to be WAY more creative and diverse. I thought they were getting better at it, but this is just sad.

I don’t even collect theses dolls anymore but I’m so disappointed 😢 She should have definitely been a doll of color 🥲 She is literally just Julie and Lea combined lol. And the fact that Gabriella (The first and only black girl of the year so far) was just recycled from an old truly me doll is soo annoying😒 Kids NEED dolls or toys that look like them or that represent them or else they won’t feel good ab themselves!! As a little Latina girl I never would find dolls that looked like me! And I would always think that I needed light hair and skin to be beautiful!! Don’t get me wrong Kira is pretty just not unique at all which is very disappointing 😢

I really like her, but the problem is that she’s pretty plain. Her hair is just normal wavy, and blonde, no streaks or unique color/styled hair. Atleast Joss has some lighter brown streaks and she does need hearing aids wich makes her cool. I like her collection and her back story/story of her, (helping animals that are important, not saying others aren’t important, I think people should not just focuse on dogs and cats.) You can literally get her as a truly me- But I think America Girl was just struggling this year.

Totally agree that there’s nothing unique about Kira the doll, but I have to disagree in regards to her story. Kira’s great aunt is gay and is married to a woman!! This is the first time AG has implemented a LGBTQ+ topic into a character’s story!! Her story is also highly focused on climate change.

My honest opinion on her is that she’s cute. But not interesting in doll wise. Her story is good and I like the Australian storyline. I wish she had more outfits IMO there’s like three. I also wish she was a doc we have been begging for years and they gave us Gabriela. A reused doll😐. I would love to see way more diverse in the GOTY line. Like more asian GOTYS. An Indian doll would be really cool bc I think sonali was Indian and she wasn’t even like the MAIN GOTY so we still need way more diversity in the line. But overall she’s cool and I like her not my fav but she’s alright
