This video actually created time for me. I've used a variety of journals (some downloaded templates, some self created) and all were a bit long in the tooth with regard to the number of entry fields. Every nuance of every trade had a spot and frankly, it was kind of a pain in the ass to keep track of everything. I tried your version and of course it was obvious that all the information recorded in that handful of columns was all that I need. Thinking back, I realized that while keeping a journal is generally advocated by "mentors" and "trainers", they really never delved into the details of what to record and even more important; why. After all, why have extraneous data if it holds little value?
@mic79964 жыл бұрын
I have a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry (that is now effectively useless) and keeping an accurate, objective, and easy-to-understand journal is imperative to reaching any goal. V.P., you are on point.

I have consistently maintained Journal. Immensely helpful. My components of Journal are date, time, pair, news vs. No news session, price executed, expected exit, maximun draw down pips, pips gained or left on table, reason even if I am positive on trade, comment on my emotional state at the time of trade, and finally comment on what I learned from the trade. I do learning comment for every trade, regardless of the results. I snap shot the chart using Microsoft windows tool. Again, thanks for your time.

Great podcast - thanks for the content! I have one extra section in my spreadsheet called 'potential profit' where I compare the profit that would have been made on the second half of my trade using various SL trailing methods (example: a 1ATR trailing stop adjusted at the close of each daily candle; same using a 1.5ATR; using a 2ATR; trailing using the low of the last 3 candles, trailing using a 13EMA etc). Over a long period of time, if one of these proves to be more profitable than my current trailing method, I will have confidence to update my algo.

For Quick Reference record of my LOG I insert a TEXT on MT4 screen then make the name in Numbers. Positive numbers for WIN trades and Negative Numbers on losing trades. And Put the ACTUAL PIPS on the DESCRIPTION! You can see a summarized list by going to OBJECT window or CTRL+B. You can sort it by name and from that you can see all the negatives and positives for quick reference. This can be used for logging the indicator PERCENTAGE wise and PIP wise. 2 work in 1 SYSTEM! In addition save the work as TEMPLATE for future reference in case you need to comeback again to compare it to your new indicators or if you want to tweak something. I hope this will give others to save more time for THOROUGH back testing!

My room looks like a notebook factory that was hit by a bomb. Notes everywhere. Still struggling to have one notebook with just the essential take-aways. I try to take the meat of what you are saying and enshrine it in blue ink. But then you start the freaking monologging and I want to turn off the damn episode and go to the next one, but I am so addicted and I am afraid I will lose a gem, so I'm white-knuckled hanging on. In the end, I listen everything to the end, twice. The worst part? I am pissed off cause it has kept me from the following video or podcast. If it was easy, someone else would have done it. I'm still a crazy-ass fan!

Now again..and again ..you whittle that down to ..essentially not trading anymore? How d’you know if the bad days (you cut) will become good again, suddenly spring to life? Not tracking them now .. great tips; journaling; ya a journal shouldn't be "Dear diary ..”

Props VP! I'm 50% done backtesting all 28 pairs on the Daily timeframe of course. As I was entering all my data into my journal I thought back (been months now) to this specific video and podcast! I had set up my Journal with PAIR, POSITION, PIPS, SCREENSHOT, COMMENTS. What I'm finding is that it would be extremely beneficial to me, to have the enter and exit dates of these trades. I understand %'s and if I get 6 setups on the same day then I'd just adjust the risk to .5% or .25% so as to not exceed 2% but some of these trades could last days to weeks, what if I'm sitting with that risk open and 10 more setups and confirmations come in but I'm locked in on my maximum account risk? Probability tells me I need to take as many of my high probability trades as possible to get the results forward testing that Im getting backtesting. Is there something I'm missing?
@michellemclaren12654 жыл бұрын
My understanding is it is a 2% risk per trade or per currency. It's not 2% risk over all open trades at once. So in theory, you could have 10% being risked at one time, but with a maximum of 2% per currency/trade.
