Yes, major stocks move with the overall market. Small Cap stocks, however, are more independent and volatile. Combined with a good risk management strategy, it can be very lucrative. The downside, however, is that it doesn’t scale in the same way as Large Cap stocks or Forex...

My approach to stocks is more investing-based, while using options to generate a bit of income from my long positions (covered calls). There's lots of ways to hedge the downside (shorts, puts, VIX calls, etc). Inverse ETFs can be risky as well, since they are inherently high leverage, and whipsaw price action can bleed value over time (tracking error). Still, the ability to manage risk and position sizes is absolutely wonderful information from the basics playlist. I didn't know what I was doing for 2 years, and I'm down 20% this year (just like everyone else). But I managed to still have some value and have even more solid fundamentals this time around, so I'm looking forward to really getting those good trades with some practice

@TomWillemsGuitars5 жыл бұрын
Alexander Henderson my guess is that most of the 10000’s of indicators you can find are designed for mt4, and have not been coded to work on mt5 yet. While there are of course also indicators designed on mt5 that you cannot find on mt4, you still have a very much smaller amount of indicators available for mt5 than mt4.
@ebenezerogbu84184 жыл бұрын
Some brokers also have fewer tradable instruments in MT5 compared to MT4. In short, many brokers have not fully migrated to MT5. I had to downgrade to MT4 to access more instruments.

@No Nonsense Forex Hi VP! do you believe it would be a good option to use the reverse strategy in the correlation of stocks and index? for example, if the largest companies, with the highest % of shares in a specific index, are giving a signal to go short or long, wouldn't they be good trend indicators to enter the index as well? thanks for the great video as always!

For those that want to learn to trade ETFs and stocks learn from “No Nonsense” but if you need another excellent resource look up “Right Way Options” and “Hit and Run Candlesticks”

As far as bigger downside, I'm pretty sure that's not true. If you're shorting, your potential loss is infinite, but if going long, your loss is your entire investment and nothing more. With forex, I believe your loss potential can exceed your initial investment, no matter which way you go. Also, the only way to effectively trade stocks is with leveraged instruments. Here, your choices are limited to geared ETFs and options. BTW, I used to hate the old crusty stochastic OSCILLATOR but have rediscovered ways to implement them into my trading algorithm. So effective are they that I've humped them up to the top tier of my chart. But again, I am in equities, not forex.

Would you consider this to be a middle ground between technical analysis and fundamentals or is it just more noise?
@NoNonsenseForex5 жыл бұрын
Those things matter more to investors, not so much traders.

@@NoNonsenseForex True, suppose I was trying to think of it as a tool to judge the overall direction of the stock (undervalued/overvalued) in order to use that as a sort of additional baseline for added security. The historical data for that is hard to come by to back test though. As of right now I'm still going through the original forex and commodities algo and seeing what can be done to give a slight edge in this market.

Using the 6 methods to the algorithm in stocks has been quite successful. I always follow the indices cause the trend is your friend. I scalp options. So I follow my algorithm to the letter. I already had most of the things you mentioned to have in an algorithm except the second confirmation. Once I did that it helps me now stay out of poor quality trades. That was the last piece of the puzzle for me. Thank you for that. My trading future thanks you. The trick was simply to read it all like a book. If they don't all line up no trade. If they do line up enter with confidence.

Before I started learning FX, I set up $25K in dividend stocks - 25 stocks, $1000 each. I’m doing buy and hold on this, not trading. No margin or leverage on the account. What I like about dividend stocks is you make something even if the stock goes down. Day trading stocks requires $25K - legally - and I would sooner trade indices. I think dividend stocks are ok for buy and hold.
