Yes but you're losing power by doing so, as you're venting the boost to atmosphere instead of being recirculated back into the engine.

Technically true but.. that also creates back pressure that can’t be dissipated quickly, meaning that with the original set up or “pressure relief valve” that comes factory you would have to idle your car for about 3 to 5 minutes after boosting in order to actually preserve your turbo and not hurt it with back pressure.. whilst the blow off valve immediately dissipates the pressure meaning you can shut the car off immediately after boosting and your turbo won’t be hurt. Funny how most people don’t know the mechanics behind the engineering.

Circulating oil through for 5 minutes after a heavy run and letting it cool slightly. Most people have a pressure gauge. My car hasn't got a recirc valve OR a blow off valve. It uses a VNT. Theres no built up boost if I switch the engine off immediately

These are still a BOV lol, it’s just this is the way to install one on a factory turbo without more modification. I had something similar on my 2018 civic hatch.. i wanted to get it redone right with the BOV on the charge pipe..

An Internal blow off valve that plumbs back into the system is always best ! It keeps the boost pressure up in the system & won't feel much turbo boost lag !✌👍

The original pressure relief valve is technically better for longetivity of the turbo and motor but a blow off valve isn’t going to hurt your car any more than a cold air intake would.. stop the hate Also just make sure to check for boost leaks around the bov as that can be fairly common

Having a recirc valve would require different mapping low down. Where you would normally have recirculating boost at the ready... And you now have to wait for that same boost to accumulate

The oe diverter valve is not technically better at all. It causes a lot of issues in the early milage bracket for most cars. It’s cheap plastic housing with a weak spring and diaphragm system with crap seals and o-rings, they literally break down internally with a bit of heat thrown at it. a blow-off would require mapping as it has a maf sensor after the valve resulting it in running leaner as it will try to calculate and inject fuel based off the last cycle of air plus any new intake, that’s only downside but you can run a catch can setup to help the pcv run cleaner and not soot up also. Best option is a well set up map with recirc and actuator to hold true psi.

@@MaNNeRz91 wrong the recirc will be faster to react to boost over oe with no mapping. Both blowoffs and recircs require mapping in no matter what to gain the best results out of them. They are made stronger, react faster and hold far more pressure over oe and usually requires larger 2.5/3+ bar map sensors and upgraded actuators to compensate for said pressure.

Most modern turbos will not benefit from a BOV, but there are exceptions. My old heavily modified Saab 9-3 benefited greatly from one, with faster spools and and more aggressive acceleration.

Apart from being a technical fudge the video is a dense demonstration of how and what _NOT_ to do when working on cars. For example putting your entire tool set in an open case on top of the engine looks fancy but in reality it is a recipe for disaster. It is quite likely that you will tip it over and dozens of small tools (bits, wrench sockets, etc) will fall into the engine bay. It is not just simply impossible to find all of them but some of them will quite likely fall into the intake system and destroy your engine at the first attempt to start. This could be prevented by not leaving the air ducts open but closing them off by some clean rags, for example. Another rookie mistake.
