FORGE MOTORSPORT SHORT SHIFTER INSTALL! | MINI JOHN COOPER WORKS F56

I install the Forge Motorsport Short Shifter for Mini Cooper S F56 2.0 Turbo!
Made from 6061 clear anodized aluminum, it is very light weight, strong and really looks cool!
The F56 Mini Cooper S John Cooper Works (JCW) comes from the factory with an extended shifter setup in the cabin. This is excellent in terms of comfort for gear changes given the seating position inside the Mini - the previous generation was quite uncomfortable without this!
The downside is that the Mini JCW has a pretty standard shift setup otherwise so in combination with the factory extension, the throw is a little long which has the effect of potentially slowing down shifts as you simply have to move the gear stick further each time but also the long throw makes for a very light shift.
The Forge Motorsport Short Shifter will address both of these concerns, with the heaviness being added in as the 'lever' is shorter thus requiring more effort, which should give a really nice mechanical positivity feel to the the shift experience!
This mod from Forge Motorsport for my Mini JCW shortens the gear shift throw by up to a massive 40%, depending on what YOU wish to set it to!
This is not a plate bolt on short / quick shift mod, it is a full shift arm replacement, which means that there is a little more to do with the install but it is nice and clean once done as well as being a nice bit of weight reduction - you will see that apart from being made from cast steel which is heavier than aluminium itself, the stock shift arm has a big extra weight on it which really isn't needed!
You may think that it is a downside of having to change the full shift arm as getting the roll pin out that holds the shift arm on can be pretty difficult to do. This process can also be very time consuming using a drift tool or punch and hammer.
The Forge Motorsport adjustable quick shift / short shift does not suffer from these issues as it comes with a unique and really well thought out solution - a pin removal tool!
This tool simply attaches onto the shift arm assembly in the engine bay and then all you have to do is tighten the nut on the removal tool and it pushes the pin out - super easy and convenient!
The installation is reasonably easy and fast to get done and even comes with a replacement nut and bolt to use in place of the drift pin so makes installation even easier!
Returning to stock (if you should want or need to) is just as easy as the install is as well!
A shorter throw allows for quicker, more precise gear changes, enhancing the overall driving experience!

The amount of shortening of the throw can be set by placing the ball end at different points along the shift arm and this can be done after the arm is fully installed if you wish to make adjustments in the future!
I chose to go with 30% throw reduction because it is a little more than what would be considered conservative but not as much as the full on 40% which could potentially be a bit much in terms of feel and shift cable strain and 30% is what I did on my Ford Focus RS and I like it!

Excellent video Adam, although i own a 1.5 F55/56 B38 i am doing a test install in the next few days for Forge Motorsport (weather permitting ) ..Lohen who also supply these don't see a issue and i have also found a Video of someone who as installed on on a B38 1.5 so this could open up the market for B38 owners ....Anyway thanks for taking time and effort on this install which looks like its going to be a big help.....Forge say they dont list suitability on non tested cars but that does not mean it cant be ...

Hi just thought i would update you on the test fitting,it was a pretty straightforward job a bearing puller a must took me two minutes to remove..Got it set around 30% and i must say its like night and day with good positive shifts which made rev matching a joy ,hitting reverse is much easier ,always felt like you were using a oar previously so all in all good news for Forge .... @@AdamRainey

Thanks for the great video, I've bookmarked it to watch again when my short shifter is delivered. It's great the the video was sped up for the removal of the OEM part and then installing the Forge part onto the shaft. However I wanted to ask about the effort/force/time required to do these steps. Did you do remove and install by hand only? The reason I ask is because I read somewhere that someone damaged their internals that are under that shaft and would like to avoid this mistake. I might prepare for this with penetrating oil first.

hi, my pin is not coming off at all. did it get harder and harder the more you screw the bolt in to push the pin out ?? mine doesn't want to move at all.

How easy will it be to install the stock arm back later, I am just worried about that pin that was removed with the specialist tool? Do you think it will be easy to install it back in again w/o any issues?

It would be easy enough to get back in yea, it is a common enough thing. would be a case of lining it up and slowly tapping it in with a hammer. I would imagine a bit slower putting back together given the tight working space but certainly doable

You can leaver the little pry bar off the metal arm so get it in position and then push down good and hard and it will pop off

Apparently installing this disables the reverse gear locking mechanism of the car. Don't even know what that is and if its got to do something with that extra long bit of the OEM shifter?

I don't know who told you this or where you read it but it is completely incorrect. Reverse lockout works perfectly and exactly as before

@@TrampChannel no, the only relevant takeaway here is that this shifter mod keeps everything working as normal and that is the end of the debate. Any other suggestion is wrong and frankly pointless
