100% agree about the feel. Had a Z that had been swapped to a short shift by the previous owner. People that rode with me couldn't even tell I was changing gears because of how much faster it was, which meant less time for the rpms to drop and less effort matching. Solidly one of the best things that can be changed on a manual transmission.

@Nasonix23 жыл бұрын
Stainless brake lines do make a difference lol especially on a Miata. Stock rubber brake lines get old and expand more with brake pressure and you loose that pressure in the line instead of at the pedal and at the brakes. It made a huge difference for me and as well as many others. Same thing goes for clutch lines. You top it all off with a brake master brace and expect greatness

I recently bought my first manual car - so much fun. I more recently broke my right shoulder in a bicycle crash - so much pain. Months before I can shift again damn. I have a 2020 Corolla Hatchback with pretty long throws - short shifter might make it easier to rehab hmmm?
@hamsterama4 жыл бұрын
You must be my lost twin LOL! Just kidding! This spring, I also bought a 2020 Corolla hatchback, which is my first manual car. Bought it without knowing how to drive stick. I taught myself to drive it just by watching KZbin videos. It was much easier than I expected. I'm 35 years old, so it's never too late to learn. And I agree, so much fun! By the way, the reason newer stick shifts have such long throws is because extra vertical space is needed for the lockout reverse ring. The throws are long out of necessity. So, this video is only applicable to older manuals. Anyway, sorry about your broken shoulder, get well soon!
@GC-kw1gq4 жыл бұрын
Yep - youtube videos taught me also. (Although many drive on wrong side of road haha) I’m not ashamed to admit I always press the iMT auto rev matching button after starting either. Computer is faster than me - but I’m older than you:)
@hamsterama4 жыл бұрын
@@GC-kw1gq Hah hah, you and me both, I also watch a ton of British driving videos! They're great because they feature real-life driving scenarios. Anyway, I too, only drive with the iMT on. Saves wear-and-tear on the clutch, and the car's computer can do a better job than me. In addition, I also only drive with brake hold feature on, so that I don't roll backwards when starting on an incline. There is no shame in using modern technology. You and I paid for it, so might as well use it.

my first car when i was 17 was a 99 nissan sentra, very slow and very small but had a similar set up to the miata, 1.6L engine. i put it on a set of coils and enjoyed the car a lot. but when i bought the megan racing short throw for it. bro it honestly made it feel like a whole new car just the way it did click into gear so nice and the actual knob was down lower and the throw was reduced my 50% it made me feel like i was driving a race car. and that car is honestly where my love for cars started

@MrTheHillfolk4 жыл бұрын
Haha in older VWs, it usually overwhelms the synchros (because they are a little tired ) and you get a nice clash going into the next gear. So you now actually have to shift slower, whereas with the stock linkage that'll never happen no matter how fast you are.
