It seems to be a fairly useless test honestly. Unless the blade is about ready to break, it doesn't seem like the bullet will do much to it. The bullet has dulled some blades a bit, but that is about it. The test feels more like it just exists to be showy, rather than a truely practical test.

Also, consider that these judges probably have a flexibility about this, I trust when they call a blade heavy it's because it is WAY heavier than it should, and not just slightly
@nickeldime67134 жыл бұрын
I mean logically it makes sense, lighter means easier to wield and typically a faster swing. However I believe there has been a few times where the lighter blade broke on the durability test, so making a light weapon is good, but you could run the risk of making it to weak.

I'm curious as the what specs the smiths are given before they start forging. If the blade was actually too heavy then it shouldn't have passed the spec to compete. If it was within spec then too heavy is subjective. There are just a few small details about the judging that I disagree with, but overall it's still an awesome show!
@nickeldime67134 жыл бұрын
Not completely sure, but they might cut some stuff out for KZbin. I have seen clips before where they did talk about and show the specific specs they needed to have. In that one they were just given a maximum weight they couldnt go over. But I mean weight really isn't a subjective thing. One person could be right at that line for weight limit (which I think in that episode the one guy was), and the other person could be well under it. typically a lighter blade is just simply easier to wield, and therefore easier to attack with. Of course you don't want it to be so light that you make it easily breakable, and things like balance can also play a huge roll. They have had times before where they remarked that the blade seemed a bit heavy, but because it was so well balanced it felt good to swing.
