@Jan Siegle The sword was clearly inferior but...yeah kinda. That wasn't a viking sword, it looked more like an arming sword. It didn't have really any characteristics of the viking sword besides being a sharp double edged swordd
@ninjafaceify4 жыл бұрын
@Jan Siegle So if a smith makes an amazing and beautiful blade that performs just as well as the other contestants plain yet accurate sword, yet the beautiful sword has virtually no characteristics of the sword that they were supposed to make, effectively making it a different type of sword. The beautiful sword should still win because it's more shiny? I think that being able to make a functional and reliable sword without changing out half the design should win over a flashier yet different sword. They weren't challenged with making the flashy inaccurate sword and the deviations from the challenge sword should be considered missing parameters. Like they've done before but oddly not here.

@@guitarhausdoesntknowwhatac3285 It's nothing like the original damascus that it's recipe is lost. You can't "glue" 2 steels and make a tougher blade. I say that because most people I know, have in mind, that damascus blades, are tougher. You get both atributes from both steels, which means, that if (and it always is) 1 of 2 steels, is less tougher, then the blade will be less tougher on the parts where that still is. Same goes for it's strength abilities.The real problem with Damascus is, that no matter how good the welding is done, it will always be a chance,the 2 steels come apart! They can't find out, what was that old recipe you mentioned for many reasons! When it comes to knives or steel blades, the more simple, the better, the simplest the BEST! Until they find that old recipe, and damascus gets into the compatition!!

Also, he seemed to rush through the process, could also be editing, but he really didn't seem to take the time needed to finish the blade. He definitely shouldn't have twisted it and spend a lot more time folding it, didn't see him use flux during the heating either, again could be editing. Hopefully he got some experience from it and is a much better smith because of this lesson.
