Well consider that damascus forging make a lot of scales. This was a kind of tldamascudls that left even a lot more due to the many steps needed, also since he had do do more heat than "needed" (due to him having a relatively small forge) it led to even more scales.

@@andreacapani2170 the scale that came off during the last step from multiple heats is pretty inconsequential to the total volume of scale. The vast majority was from forging the Damascus itself, not from drawing out the sword.

That is a really cool mosaic pattern. The Damascus hilt pieces were a nice touch, although the pommel is a little small compared to other historical pieces but the shape is quite accurate. Overall I like it. Great job on this one.

Those other boys made some cool stuff, but this was a whole 'nother level with the pattern Damascus. Beautiful damascus sword. Really enjoy your videos and watching your very quick progress over a short period. You have gift. One thing that I think would be great to know about these competition builds is the approximate cost in materials, abrasives and time? Seems to be a perspective that isn't often discussed for some reason.

This one is about $500 in materials. It's about $200 just in the steel, plus the gold, sharkskin, consumables like propane, electricity, abrasives, wax, oil, wood, etc. The biggest cost of course is the labor. At about 80 hours of labor or more (and that's not minimum wage labor), that's where the majority of the cost comes from. Thanks for watching.

Dunno. As beautiful as mosaic Damascus blades look. I'd like to see one tested. I'm guessing Frag Central!😮 So many welds. So many failure points. But! Absolutely gorgeous stuff!❤

When done properly, these are as strong as the base metals used. That’s why the ABS mastersmith performance test is done with a Damascus blade. I’m very confident in these welds. 😉. Thanks for watching.

While grinding my sword yesterday, it picked up a HUGE bend just like you mentioned. I’ll be finishing the bevels tomorrow, so hopefully it pulls most of it out, but I’m sure I’ll have to re-temper it. That thing is awesome by the way! Hopefully I can post mine on the bladesmithing page soon. It’s nowhere near as pretty as this work 😂.

Grind all your bevels before you try to correct it. Grinding the other sides may fix it. Thanks for watching.

@@TyrellKnifeworks yup, that’s what I meant 👍. I made a dagger last year that did the same thing, then after I grinded the other side, it was perfectly straight.
