Majority of people planning to move to Africa should see these problems as business opportunities to retrain themselves to fill these gap. They can bring the ideas in the west to retrain some of these artisans to do better. Can you imagine if you start a small school and charge minimal fees to retrain people for six months to a year to learn new ways of building or construction? You can make a lot of money. You can even partner with a foreigner who will be ready to respect these people and not look down on them. A lot of them are using ideas of the 60s and 70s.

Building in Ghana is far cheaper than building in the US any day. You must really research the prices, the builders you want and you must also watch the builders as they are building your dream home. Ghana builders will and can take forever or try to charge you extra after you agreed on a price. I have seen many beautiful homes built in Ghana and I've seen some that were not so greatly built. Just makw sure you do the work and over see the project!

Even lands are expensiveas well. I had a land I purchased in 2004 for 3K USD and I recently sold it for almost 29K USD. I recently purchased 10 acres in middle of nowhere. I plan to sit on it for some tome and then sale it.

Dela I just paid much for some jobs I did on my finished building I paid 13.000 euros madness but that job has to be done. Just for a new water tank stand I spent 2200 euros. Although I manage it myself. My situation is even better than my husband's own. You are right they do it to everybody and I always fight with them because most of my work I do it when I am in Ghana or out of Ghana in Germany so I can relate to what you said. Unless you have been there you will not understand. I love to build in Ghana so I just take it as it is. Because when I am in Ghana I sleep in my own house built by me and that makes me proud 😂😂😂😂😂

Hi Dela, you have done a fantastic job so far which l know hasn’t been easy at all with regard to some artisans…you learn as you go along and yes some mistakes would happen…the quality and durability of the pipes that were used at the time may not have been of the best quality to last a lifetime especially if on top of that it’s covered up with concrete slabs ….a similar thing happened at my mum’s, unfortunately we didn’t realise that the plumber had bought the cheapest of pipes….thank God we hadn’t covered that section with concrete…so kindly pay extra attention to the quality of materials that are bought by your contractors….Anyway well done Dela the finishing line is just round the corner….keep it up my dear 👌🏾👍🏾✌🏾🙏🏾

I've built in Accra, lots of us have and we rely on these professional services! If you were building in the UK, you would have a quantity surveyor and project manager. They save you money and the heartaches you've experienced Again, apologies but so many of your issues appear to be down to impulsiveness, not shopping around and using artisans who arent good enough to build storey buildings. Sucasa is not an established developer in Ghana. Folks did not do their due diligence. Devtraco, Seso Global……. developers that already have multiple developments that you can walk through and touch. Kassel that owns the Signature apartments, when they started they were selling off plan and now people who own those apartments have already seen a 15-25% appreciation. All the luxe developments in Accra are selling off plan, by the time they are done most people will not be able to afford them.

The westerners come in and price out the locals which makes things go up as well. The workers in turn up their prices cos they know there are folks that are ready to pay. Majority of the developers/builders in Ghana right now are coming in from the West, so folks know they will buy these materials either way but it is hurting the locals. Mexico just cried out cos of that and started deporting Americans that are staying illegally recently. The locals in a lot of the cities in Mexico are being priced out and cost of living kept going up.
