Easy with the irony here. It's a vid for those who can't afford a stand mixer but only ever see the ytber they watch use a stand mixer. Not everybody has the chance to have learnt cooking when young, and it doesn't come easy to everybody. The vid is simple, educational and it doesn't need to be more, it's here to show ppl you don't need the fancy stuff to start baking. I'm lucky ppl in my fam cooked and showed me how to. But I used to live to live in 9m² with a common kitchen, I know how to improvise, do with very little ustensils and space, others in my situation didn't or didn't bothered and only ate prepped meals or very simple dishes (rarely healthy ones), I'm glad vids like these are being made, and I only wish more are released in the future.

@@12345678abracadabra I worked in a bunch of kitchens and never saw a Kitchenaid mixer. We had a Hobart, a Robotcoupe and mixing bowls along with the standard SS steamer insert/prep pans. For a YT video, a Kitchenaid is just more interesting to watch. No YTer wants to film themselves cramping up whipping egg whites. That said, a smaller kitchen doing their own desserts and pastries might invest in a couple Kitchenaids. One for main use and the other when the main one burns out.

Lol, then make a video about how you don't need a stand mixer, not 'this specific bowl is the only bowl you'll ever need.'
@jinxed79154 жыл бұрын
First, you aren't using "irony" correctly. Second, my problem with this video is that it half of it is disingenuous. It pretends like the reason people buy stand mixers is because mixing together dough is too hard a task, when in reality stand mixers are there to save effort and allow you to work on other tasks while it does its job. The video also pretends like a stack of nesting bowls (bowls of various sizes that typically are bundled together) also don't have any place in baking, when in reality this couldn't be further from the truth. Depending on what you are making, they can be quite useful. If you need to mix together a small portion of something, a smaller bowl will be a lot easier to handle and manipulate then a 13 inch wide bowl. Also, you'll sometimes want to have a bowl with higher edges so ingredients don't spill out as you mix them together. Lastly, if you need to chill a dough in the refrigerator, a smaller and not as wide bowl is much better as it takes up less space than a bowl that could take up an entire shelf on its own. P.S. I just saw that the description says that she believes that this mixing bowl can (and I quote) "improve your baking workflow". Yeah no, this isn't going to help your workflow i.e. increase the amount of doughs you can put out in a given amount is time. I highly doubt Danielle over here can outpace a machine designed specifically for it.

@@jinxed7915 Relax, I think you're taking this video too literally. The audience for this video is lazy youtube viewers. People like me who tried baking but got discouraged because I didn't want to invest in a stand mixer and didn't know proper efficient technique. Also, possibly for those in a kitchen environment where the stand mixer went down or there isn't one available. Obviously it's not to convince those who already own a stand mixer, and definitely not advice for those running bakeries lol...

This is actually very helpful for beginners like me. I don’t understand the hate. This bowl is fr more ergonomic than the narrow ones. And it’s easier to knead them there too without having to transfer them onto a counter. (Saves u time cleaning. Lol) I’ve tried using both, although not metal since I just use whatever I have in the kitchen, and have used those techniques naturally (u just start noticing the convenience of a wider bowl without rly thinking abt it). And based on experience & AFAIK, she’s speaking the truth. All she’s doing is showing us to work efficiently IF we’re too broke to buy the expensive stuff and IF we want to. What’s with the hate? 🤔

Most restaurants have limited space in the kitchen. At the place I worked, we had the small Hobart mixer on the floor perched on a small stand and everything else was done by hand. If you needed a large quantity of anything, you used the mixer. If you were making a batch of mayonnaise (about 1 qt or litre), you did it by hand because the cleaning and down time for the mixer wasn't worth it. For a home cook/baker, processing and clean up time is kinda unlimited. And you learned to get fast at things like mixing batter and whipping cream. And cleaning a SS bowl took no time at all and is lighter than a pyrex bowl. I think YT and TV cooking shows mainly use pyrex because it looks better on camera. I think we had about a dozen Vollrath metal bowls in S/M/L that got used multiple times a day.

Yeah, I wonder about bakers/cooks that think, "If only I had that expensive piece of kit, then I could make something delicious. That is what's stopping me." I used to pick up the bread order for my work on my way in. They had a sheeter and specialty machines for shaping specific buns and rolls. But they did a lot of volume for a small family owned bakery. Unless you are willing to place your stand mixer on the counter and use it all of the time, I don't see the need. If it is mostly in a cupboard, having to drag it out for the times you use it is a pain and will probably convince you that going out and buying decent bread is easier.

@@SongJiangShiJin Agreed, these kinds of bowls should be in any serious cooks inventory, as they really are great, but it isn’t an either or situation. They are also great for tossing stuff, salads wings, whatever. Few things are as annoying as having to carefully insert mixing utensils (be they salad forks, spatulas, or your own hands) between the edge of a tiny bowl filled to the brim, and its contents, in order mix them up, and still having shit spill over the edge. A good bowl for tossing and mixing by hand should fit all the contents in its center, with plenty of space left up the sides to move things around.

I don't know it took me 10s to think of the plan for an interesting video with some content beyond "it's a bowl you can use it to mix ingredients. If you cook a lot, a bowl like this, and some in other sizes, are great. This is probably an 8 quart bowl, but they can be had in variety of sizes, at least from 1 o1.5 quarts, all the way up to 30 quarts. The more shallow design, a bit reminiscent of a wok shape, is great for tossing and mixing efficiently and effectively. Working with a big, wide, and spacious bowl feels great, in the same way that using a large cutting board can be so much more pleasant than a tiny one. But this doesn’t mean that a stand mixer its useless, only that they both have their place.
