The amount of stuff I have been able to easily fix after first seeing this video is crazy. There's been times where I would have literally had to throw qeuipment out because small inexpensive parts broke and it was impossible to find replacements anywhere. Try with volcanic ash, the result gives a refractory qualitative characteristic, I use it for insulation in soldering irons and pyrographs, because it lacks conductivity.I am not minimizing your formula, it is simply that it seems "super" conductive to me due to the natural properties of graphene, I use it to repair control panels, generally of my ovens.

I REALLY don't recommend using ANY kind of superglue composite for "insulation in soldering irons" or other "refractory" uses. Cyanoacrylate fumes are outright nasty and no amount of reinforcement is gonna prevent that, not even volcanic ash.

Truly incredibe! For information, lead in pencils is normally graded number first, letter second eg 6H (not H6!). Mid-range, everyday grade is HB. As an occasional artist I have very soft lead pencils of 9B, the softer ‘B’ range used more extensively by artists than the harder ‘H’ range.

putting the video at a speed of 0.25 you can see that the stick is turning in the direction of taking the waste to the top of the tool, so it seems that the direction of rotation was correct in the graphite. I suspect that fraffite, because it has carbon, facilitates covalent chemical bonds and would be stronger because of the bonding chemistry and not because of the hardness of the graphite powder. Someone gave a tip about crushing fiberglass wool and it could be that I got a lot stronger even if I mixed it because the glass powder is very hard

Pencil "lead" is graphite and clay. The hardness number of a pencil lead increases as the clay content diminishes. A #2 is the highest graphic content generally available. in a writing pencil, but corresponds to H, the middle of the scale for hardness and was the softest that was used for mechanical drafting.

Excellent video! This is the first video I have seen where pencil lead is used with super glue. For when I need a very strong union I will use pencil lead. What if you want a very strong connection? Consider using a screen that overlaps the break on each side. Put some pencil lead on the screen and add a few drops of superglue. This keeps the patch smooth. Now you have a very strong connection. Cheers!

@luislast6113
@luislast6113 4 ай бұрын
@@noonewn If you want to be correct, be completely correct. It is actually graphite mixed with clay. However, It is commonly, and acceptably, if erroneously, called lead. In point of fact, "lead" is actually just an abbreviation: the full, correct name is "pencil lead." If it makes you feel better, there are scores of names for objects that have little to no relation to the things they are named for. This is usually called a misnomer. Compare the terms starfish (neither star nor fish), jellyfish (neither), cuttlefish, butterfly (flies, but is dairy free), ladybug (technically not a big, may be of either sex, have no peerage rank), firefly (no combustion), strawberry (no dried grass), tin foil (not tin), whale shark/killer whale/orca (none are whales), tiger shark (no relation to any feline), bearcat (not a bear, barely a cat), electric eel (actually a fish), red panda (no relation), King Cobra (doubtful royalty, not a cobra), mountain goat (neither as big as a mountain, nor technically a goat), honey badger (not made of honey, not a badger), mantis shrimp (neither), American Buffalo (citizenship is arguable, species is incorrect), flying squirrel (glides, has no wings), flying lemur (neither) Maned Wolf (maned, but no genetic connection to any canines), Horned Toad (not a toad, not even a frog), Koala Bear (not a bear), Mountain Chicken (a frog!). Among others. The origin of the usage is historical. The pencil dates back to ancient Rome, when it was a rod made of lead. The word pencil comes from the Latin penicillium (interesting original meaning--look it up!). However, graphite's use dates much, much later, to its discovery in the mid-sixteenth century. At the time, many thought it looked and acted a lot like lead, so it was called plumbago (from plumbus, the Latin for lead) or "black lead." The association has stuck since. Roughly 5 generations later, during the Napoleonic Wars, France was cut off from high quality English graphite. Under order from Napoleon, engineer Nicholas Jacques Conté developed a method to combine low quality graphite with clay, baking the product. This is still the basic procedure used today. (Note: there is an interesting connection between Henry David Thoreau and the pencil--look it up!)

I love these videos with no audio to explain details and a thumbs up at the end. Powdered graphite is readily available at the hardware store so what's the deal here? An emergency fix when you have a pencil and can't run to the store? Maybe a onetime fix and you don't want to buy a bottle of graphite? And, as others have asked, what else was mixed with the graphite? A thumbs up shows that you achieved what you want, but more details please. Otherwise, I suspect all you achieved was to show YT how smart you are.

I need to know what he mixed with the graphite too or video is useless. a lot of videos do this, or leave the ingredient up for a second instead of just leaving it there until the next ingredient. It's so aggravating, I unsubscribed from a bunch of repair, cooking and craft videos. The only reasons I can think of why he used a pencil, it was an emergency repair and store was closed, or they live in a poor country where they can barely afford food so can't buy graphite powder. What about pure charcoal powder instead of graphite? Would it even be better or less strong? What exactly does the natron (NaHCO3) do in the process? Does it react with the glue? Probably not with the graphite/charcoal. NaHCO3 is known as cleaning powder, baking soda etc. and tends to produce CO2 gas - so it would make the glue more foamy - not what you want...

Graphite consists of sheets of graphene, which is one carbon atom thick. The carbon atoms are arranged in hexagons which means that each carbon atom has only 3 bonds, when it needs 4. The remaining bond is shared around the ring and to adjacent rings. This makes graphene VERY strong. Charcoal is not so bonded and is not nearly as strong.

The "graphite" in a pencil is a mixture of clay and graphite. Graphite is soft and slippery - it's the clay that's doing all the work here (as it does in the pencil.) If you're doing a lot of work with superglue, just buy a few ounces of clay powder and save yourself the mess and trouble. (Maybe do this if you need a black material.)

I wonder how carbon would compare with aluminum powder. I think grain size is important because the finer, the more surface area for the glue to bind. I think baby powder might be interesting to try.
