putting the video at a speed of 0.25 you can see that the stick is turning in the direction of taking the waste to the top of the tool, so it seems that the direction of rotation was correct in the graphite. I suspect that fraffite, because it has carbon, facilitates covalent chemical bonds and would be stronger because of the bonding chemistry and not because of the hardness of the graphite powder. Someone gave a tip about crushing fiberglass wool and it could be that I got a lot stronger even if I mixed it because the glass powder is very hard

Pencil "lead" is graphite and clay. The hardness number of a pencil lead increases as the clay content diminishes. @luislast61134
@@noonewn If you want to be correct, be completely correct. It is actually graphite mixed with clay. However, It is commonly, and acceptably, if erroneously, called lead. In point of fact, "lead" is actually just an abbreviation: the full, correct name is "pencil lead." If it makes you feel better, there are scores of names for objects that have little to no relation to the things they are named for. This is usually called a misnomer. Compare the terms starfish (neither star nor fish), jellyfish (neither), cuttlefish, butterfly (flies, but is dairy free), ladybug (technically not a big, may be of either sex, have no peerage rank), firefly (no combustion), strawberry (no dried grass), tin foil (not tin), whale shark/killer whale/orca (none are whales), tiger shark (no relation to any feline), bearcat (not a bear, barely a cat), electric eel (actually a fish), red panda (no relation), King Cobra (doubtful royalty, not a cobra), mountain goat (neither as big as a mountain, nor technically a goat), honey badger (not made of honey, not a badger), mantis shrimp (neither), American Buffalo (citizenship is arguable, species is incorrect), flying squirrel (glides, has no wings), flying lemur (neither) Maned Wolf (maned, but no genetic connection to any canines), Horned Toad (not a toad, not even a frog), Koala Bear (not a bear), Mountain Chicken (a frog!). Among others. The origin of the usage is historical. The pencil dates back to ancient Rome, when it was a rod made of lead. The word pencil comes from the Latin penicillium (interesting original meaning--look it up!). However, graphite's use dates much, much later, to its discovery in the mid-sixteenth century. At the time, many thought it looked and acted a lot like lead, so it was called plumbago (from plumbus, the Latin for lead) or "black lead." The association has stuck since. Roughly 5 generations later, during the Napoleonic Wars, France was cut off from high quality English graphite. Under order from Napoleon, engineer Nicholas Jacques Conté developed a method to combine low quality graphite with clay, baking the product. This is still the basic procedure used today. (Note: there is an interesting connection between Henry David Thoreau and the pencil--look it up!)

An emergency fix when you have a pencil and can't run to the store? Maybe a onetime fix and you don't want to buy a bottle of graphite? And, as others have asked, what else was mixed with the graphite? A thumbs up shows that you achieved what you want, but more details please. Otherwise, I suspect all you achieved was to show YT how smart you are.

It's so aggravating, I unsubscribed from a bunch of repair, cooking and craft videos.
Graphite consists of sheets of graphene, which is one carbon atom thick. The carbon atoms are arranged in hexagons which means that each carbon atom has only 3 bonds, when it needs 4. The remaining bond is shared around the ring and to adjacent rings. This makes graphene VERY strong. Charcoal is not so bonded and is not nearly as strong.

The "graphite" in a pencil is a mixture of clay and graphite. Graphite is soft and slippery - it's the clay that's doing all the work here (as it does in the pencil.) If you're doing a lot of work with superglue, just buy a few ounces of clay powder and save yourself the mess and trouble. (Maybe do this if you need a black material.)
@richardallison87452 жыл бұрын
I wonder how carbon would compare with aluminum powder. I think grain size is important because the finer, the more surface area for the glue to bind. I think baby powder might be interesting to try. I used to work in a lab in a refractory company and better yet pulverized alumina with carbon or silicon carbide.
