Super glue cures instantly with water. That's why it bonds skin so bloody well. Very fine hydroscopic powders contain a small amount water, like cement, baking soda, cornstarch, plaster of Paris. Different powders give different properties to the end result.

PLEASE NOTE: These repairs cannot be done with standard thick super glues that are available from local retailers. You will have to order watery-thin super glues from brands such as StarBond. And be extremely cautious using it, because the fumes are very toxic, and the glue itself is extremely caustic to your skin. Be advised to wear an apron and thin rubber gloves, and have active ventilation. This stuff is DANGEROUS, and I'm not exaggerating at all!

Could not agree more, well done for putting the 'correct' information before attempting this use of superglue and cement. I am an ex Civil Engineer Technician, thus have a fair amount of knowledge regarding cement and later went on to become a Science Teacher. Now retired I often watch KZbin and shake my head at KZbinrs (like this one) who put on here without any real thought, technical expertise and not stating the dangers of attempting to copy what they have put on here.

Many car makers rather the world turn towards throw away instead of repair. More margins for shareholders and less need to fret over fixing. If not for KZbin, the amount of carbon emissions due to the practice of throw and repair will be unabated. That day I took scrap wood from old IKEA furniture to build a router case. Money saved and less need to cut more trees.

Brilliant idea where no real force is exerted like the bolt hole on a panel, for years I've been making my own wood filler, simply mix some of the same wood saw dust with PVA glue, when dried out you can sand it, works wonders. If you put ordinary hand soap or washing up liquid on your metal screw before inserting it into wood or a wall plug, you'll find it is easier to turn the driver. To avoid splitting wood when hammering nails into it, turn it so it's sharp point is upwards and lightly hammer a small flat on it carefully so it doesn't bend, then use in wood. If you need plumbers seal for joints but have none, you can either use gloss paint or make up some using dry filler powder and mix it with linseed oil to a not too runny consistency.

Metallic powder soldering via CA glues likely won't work unless an entire chain of metal particles are in continuous contact with each other. No continuity would exist unless the powder was well over 95%. As well, the tiny nature of a powder conductor would burn out quickly
@thatfeeble-mindedboy
@thatfeeble-mindedboy Жыл бұрын
The finer the powder, the more surface area available to carry moisture evenly within the mixture. Adding any kind of mesh,fibers,fabric etc. only adds overall strength, resistance to fracture, stress dispersion,and bonding surface area within, and extending out to the edges where it contacts the material being repaired. It also permits the repair to be sanded down to a grit of 6,8,10, up to 12,000 grit, making a gloss finish possible if desired, but obviously, it’s going to be harder to sand diatomaceous earth than baking soda, for example. A drinking straw cut at an angle, and loaded with whatever powdered medium, coming into intermittent, even indirect, contact with a running electric toothbrush (with some practice) can be a very precise applicator without actually coming in contact with any glue, since the bond is instantaneous and permanent.
@richarddillio6258

so what your saying is that you can use any powdered material the finer the better, cement has nothing to do with the degree of hardness you obtain. What about powdered metal.

Be careful with those fumes!! Make sure you do this in a well ventilated place. I don't know what the fumes are, but super glue is cyanoacrilate, so possibly related to cyanide 😮

The fumes are CYANIDE GAS, the same gas that is used in execution chambers. It will seriously burn your eyes and lungs. You must not even get this stuff close to your face! I am not exaggerating at all!!

Just tried mixing super glue with cigarette ashes, and it hardens up like a rock, just very hard and solid. Have not tried baking soda yet, but I will. Thought this could help someone.

on other plastic items, you are better off soldering plastic parts together. with some small metal reinforcement like staples or paperclips. the glue is brittle and will break again.

For anything steel, a small welder and partial fender washer would be better than superglue. Depends on how much weight is going to be pushing or pulling on it.

Most households have superglue and some kind of powder . Of course a welder would be better than glue for steel . I don’t think you quite get this . Lol 😂

Yes, that's very obvious lol. I'm actually surprised at how well it held up to being bent. I wonder If the concrete does anything different from baking soda. I have a welder, so it's not anything I'll be doing, but could help in a pinch I suppose.
