I put in my preorder for the Terra. By the time it comes out i'll have enough set aside to pay for it in cash. Hopefully there are no big design changes so I don't have to change my mind.
@WhatWhyNoIdea5 күн бұрын
Currently I own an Ineos Grenadier. I love it. Its been great off road and decent on road. I just reserved the Traveler Harvester but I am pretty torn still, the Terra looks cool and I do a good amount of off-roading, fishing, traveling outdoors and finding new spots to just enjoy nature. The thing is this would possibly be my main daily ride as well.
@robertreynolds9284Ай бұрын
I love the new scouts. I actually pre-ordered the suv with range extender. You missed the mark though on rivian. They are great off road ev rigs. I get that ev isnt for every one but rivians are really nice. The company is really cool too.
@ChasingHorsepowerАй бұрын
Good call! Rivians are most definitely pretty capable offroad with their active suspension and 4 hub motor design.
@JLamont_3PMАй бұрын
I'm glad you believe what you are saying. Rivians brand is built on adventure driving and off-road capability. Maybe you would not take a Rivian rock climbing but to say it's meant just for street is misleading and you know it. The content is cool and the scout will be also but you can definitely see the design cues between Rivian and Scout.
@ChasingHorsepower23 күн бұрын
Agreed! Rivian does have more offroad capability than mentioned here. Hopefully we'll have a review on one soon and give it it's full credit!
@aberdeenmeadows18 күн бұрын
100% agreed - see the movie created in 2019 "Long Way Up" - where the first two Rivian trucks drove from Argentina all the way up to Los Angeles, along with two electric harley motorcycles
@MAntonis7513 күн бұрын
I also pre-ordered with range extender. To everyone complaining, I also have a 73 Scout II that I love (but need the nailer driver version). I think a gas/diesel would have definitely opened up another market for this, but regulations aren't making the development of new ICE vehicles easy anymore....
@LYNDONGOLDENАй бұрын
I love the new Scout design. The electric powerplant will provide a combination of luxury performance, smoothness, and thrill that is felt down to your core... and not easily matched with an ICE alternative.
@dirtandhappiness2023Ай бұрын
Rivian is built purely for the street?!? With 15” of ground clearance? That doesn’t make any sense.
@ChasingHorsepowerАй бұрын
Yeah, the quad motor design and air suspension actually do make them pretty capable offroad. So you're right, not purely for the street.
@dstephan34Ай бұрын
He almost lost me there. Sure it's more on road focused than the Scouts, but they are definitely not on road only.
@saulb2488Ай бұрын
i wonder will you be able to modify the traveler for example if I wanted to lift mine ?
@drumjs18214 күн бұрын
I highly recommend trying a Rivian for yourself. I have had more fun off-road with my R1T than any of my previous more purpose built rigs. The fact it does both on-road and off-road so well is what sold me. I was originally nervous to go full electric but I have had no problems, we also have solar so its basically free to drive...

Just bought a '24 Bronco Sport. Hoping these EV/PHEV Off-Roaders progress in the next 5 years. Need gas mileage over off-road, but being in my 50s I am nostalgic to finally own a real off-roader (that is not a wrangler) with good MPG.

Great preview on the Scout and Terra coming in 2027, 2 big things that will stick out to buyers that they will love, the roof with no slope that increases visibility and ease of use for loading taller cargo and the gas engine range extender, buyers will be all over that option and that option could make it very popular with the off roading community itself and you can still go beyond that range with the addition of gerry cans loaded up with your off road gear, just check out some you tubers with Gladiators with Hemi's and one i watch he carries 3- 5 gallon cans of fuel, that tells you right there this will work awesomely even if your not off roading, it makes getting to a camping sight that much easier without having to stop and recharge your vehicle,The Scout could very easily make a solid spot for itself in the market place with range anxiety being almost non existent 👍

$40k with a ICE and I might think about it.
@madd2278Ай бұрын
Got excited when I heard this was coming but that faded the second I heard it was electric, as I live in a relatively rural area where I often do a lot of off road we have no chargers, in the city where all the chargers are you don't do much off roading.. seems a bit out of touch but who knows maybe it will do well with the mall crawler and weekend warrior crowd.
@ChasingHorsepowerАй бұрын
Do you think getting the range extender would solve those concerns or no?
@madd2278Ай бұрын
@ChasingHorsepower no probably not, I commute 70 miles per day to a very small farm town to work 5 days a week and Colorado Winters can sometimes be Brutal so electric and even hybrids are kind of a no go , probably just keep my Tacoma and Jeep and see if a gas version comes down the road, but I've always had a soft spot for Scout as I was nearly born in one that my family drove daily until it broke down and began it's life as a lawn ornament on my grandmas farm around the time I was 8.

Starting price at $60k end up $90k and too big truck for off road. Electric truck you might have to carry a generator with you, and it is very expensive to bring your scout back to the city to charge.

Soooo…. Where are you going to charge it when off-roading?

That's what the gas range extender is for! It adds 150 miles of range for a total of 500, and you can just bring your gas cans with you.

A Rivian is purely built for on road and you're not thinking of taking it off-road??? How can an enthusiast like you say you are think that? My Rivian came stock with 34" all terrain tires, underbody shield and way more ground clearance than my Sasquatch Bronco. Plenty of people take them off road.

EV IS THE FUTURE. With that said I won’t be getting rid of my K5 Blazer any time soon. These Scouts are a full blown rip off of the Rivian R1T and R1S. And that is perfectly OK with me. 5 Billion dollars should get you that for sure. I think they look nicer than the Rivians…. Not really a fan of the headlights on the Rivian. The Rivians are absolutely off road vehicles. Check out the video of Hells Gate in Moab with a R1T. But I have a bone to pick with all of these EV pickups and SUVs. MODULARITY. How do I put a winch bumper on the vehicle? How do I wire the winch to the battery system? Off-road lights? High lift jack? Jerry cans? Etc, etc? I don’t give two shits about the environment. (Think George Carlin here) So I will be that guy that pulls the generator out at camp and charges stuff. Milwaukee Chainsaw, Impact wrench, Electric mountain bike, margarita blender, lights, stereo, etc. OH! And my primary vehicle as well! Think of it this way? My diesel pickup burns diesel and my K5 burns gasoline. An EV rig can burn diesel, gasoline, hydro, solar, wind, French fry oil, etc. And so does your house, much of your tools, all your appliances, etc. I LOVE LITHIUM. My Milwaukee impact can zip lug nuts off my K5 no problem. No air compressor needed. I was really rooting for the Canoo Bulldog but it looks like they are sinking. That was very modular. Rivian and Scout via Volkswagen are now in a death embrace. Sink or swim. I hope they both make it. And I do love the old fashioned styling on the Scouts. Super cool! But only time will tell. Oh and one more thing? Rivian can use Tesla chargers. Will Scout? In our small town the local chamber of commerce has EV chargers that are FREE. No one uses them! Baffling. I worked in the Bakken oil field for 8 years and they don’t send me Xmas cards or give me free fuel. And I did the math and I can charge a Rivian in my garage for 7 bucks. That’s ridiculously cheap! And 850 HP…..🤔 Be safe people out there!🏕️

@ChasingHorsepower YES, EVEN WITH THE RANGE EXTENDER
@mfreidbergАй бұрын
@@countyline81Not true. It depends on where you drive that 1,000 miles. We took a Tesla Model Y more than 1,000 miles round trip (~588 each way) from Philly to Cleveland and back. Plenty of Superchargers along the way; two relatively quick charging stops each way (by the time we finished a snack and hit the restroom we had enough charge to continue). In parts of the country with plentiful Superchargers, long trips are fine.
