I didn't get into WFB until a few years ago, well after GW killed it. I have always been aware of WFB, but I was a 40k fan and never got into WFB. Well, after getting the 6th, 7th, and 8th edition starters, I decided to hunt down 4th and 5th starters as well, and I have to be honest I love both of them. I used to think this era was too cartoonish, but after I bought the additional models to play the Battle for Maugthrond Pass in 4th, along with some others, as well as the additional models to build the example armies in the 5th Battle book, I really fell in love with the models. They have become some of my favorite models and I have a ton of the later stuff. I think the 4th starter is better than the 5th only because it comes with a mini army book for several armies to start with, whereas you have to buy army books for 5th. It's similar to Ravening Hordes for 6th edition, so I really think 4th edition is the best deal for your buck compared any other WFB starter. That being said 5th does have its charm and the rulebooks are nice being full color, something we didn't even get in 6th. Plus, the set comes with Bretonnians vs Lizardmen, and as odd as that is, it gave me the chance to dive into two armies I wouldn't have considered getting into and actually ended up really liking both.

Absolutely! I love the more modern stuff gw does but these older bits just have so much charm! And yah, I've never really done much gaming outside of lord of the rings, but I did have a white dwarf subscription for a whole and definitely developed a love for the fantasy world

Thanks for the blast from the past. That box set was the first thing my brother and I got for warhammer when I was 10. I’m now 31, with a room filled with MESBG models. The bretonnians and lizardmen are still here as well, some painted in awful schemes by a 10 year old me.

Love it! And yah... I really wanted to make the video as while most of what I have is MESBG... there's been a surprising amount of warhammer fantasy sneaking it's way in, and though I aught to do something about it :P

I was playing then..at the timr it was pretty awsome!. If you could get your hands on a second set....you would have a solid core for your force. Also at the time it was simple to add champions..command and heroes by buying a blister pack(metal figs). Some times i miss the joy of browsing through a wall of blisters to find that perfect model :) my fav set was the 6e one

Yah I really want to track down a 6th edition set as I have some models from it and have been using them for the base of my Empire army, so always need more :P

Have you look over Warcry! You may love it since you can use those model to create a nice warband.

Yah I've heard good things about kings of War... and I'm getting increasingly tempted by the idea of multibasing... And bretonians are the best, always remember being amazed by them in the old white dwarfs!

Have to admit I missed out of 5th. 6th Ed was where I got into it. Still use some of the empire minis from 6th ed box today. Also I want a pool!!

Yah I feel like from what I heard 6th is the real sweat point, and from what I've seen was a better box overall (LOVE those old empire figures). But I do really like the bretonnian and kizardmen models here, particularly the old saurian models!

@@jmaccsarmiesofmiddleearth Yah, there's something just so... endearing about just Classic "Knights" that definitely feels a bit laking in most game systems. There's always the push to be so Original in oder to stand out/copyright stuff, that just making a GOOD version of classical fantasy stuff is rarely done. Feel like you see that the most with dragons... but that's a whole rant in intself :P I got... Opinions on dragons...

nice video! I just love the old painting/modelling guides in the official media. Just imagine being encouraged to build something out of trash instead of buying the latest plastic terrain kit :P Btw: asoiaf is really not complicated, cmon is just bad at wording concise rulesets :D

OH absolutely! So much of my early hobby years were building crumby castle and stuff out of foam and always loved seeing that stuff in white dwarf. And I love the terrain GW is doing now... but does feel like we've lost something there. Yah as for ASOIAF I think you're right, and it's just.... convoluted and difficult to get my head around... just need to play a game :P
