a cable on a ship taking the name of a great war general turned president, touched by the burning flames and hooks of F-4 Phantoms, F-14s, A-6 Intruders, EA-6B Growlers, F/-18C/D Hornets, F/A-18E/F Superhornets, and the F-35C Lightning II. and now forged into a Navy Officer's Sword. what a beautiful life to have lived, and to now rest in a new form with the impressions of all those years of use forever between hundreds of layers of what was once cable.

I don't hate hand sanding. It's the most satisfying part of the builds next to the handle finishes. I mean...I don't LOVE it... but I'm a perfectionist with some ocd and I can't deny the way the "before and after pics" make me feel. I hand sanded my first knife for like 8 hours bc It was my first time hand sanding steel... I was learning as I went. Thank you for great content. I served 10 years on active duty in the USAF before I was medically retired. I left as an NCO but I never managed to get an NCO sword before I got out…. Lord knows I can’t afford one now. I actually tried to find a Used USMC NCO sword for my brother-in-law to give to him when he had his promotion ceremony this past year but just couldn’t swing it. It was a cool ceremony for him though, his father, a retired USAF SNCO &his sister who served 6 years in the Air Force as well pinned his rank on. That was a really cool thing for the family memory for sure. My wife actually teared up a bit when he asked her. She knew it was him honoring her service just as much as his own promotion. I would still like to get my own NCO sword one day though. I know it has little meaning to most, but it’s something I can use to tell my son stories about what his dad did in the military a decade before he was born. I’d love to have been able to take him to work with me just once. So he could see me less like his old disabled dad that can’t do any fun stuff…

One thing I learned that is counterintuitive is going back down to a previous grit in sand paper, and getting a better finish. I don't understand it, but when sanding to 800 grit, if you go back to 600, it seems to produce a better finish than the 800g... I have not tried to go above 1000 grit yet... figured I don't need to finish my knives like that until the quality of workmanship matches the need for a mirror shine 😅 I'll work up to it progressively.
