@@TyrellKnifeworks I have made some knives in te past but have never done damascus successfully but have tried to make it. No money to get or build a gas forge or improve my other equipment since Im disabled and only have a very small monthly income from it and I cant do much at a time before I have to stop and take a break so I dont do much of the forgework anymore so the expense of improving my setup would not make much sense.

@@TyrellKnifeworks Great about your son! I was a US Navy Diver for 31 years. We used to buy the Camillus version thru the Navy stock system by the case. They rusted pretty bad if you did not maintain it being made from carbon steeI. We sharpened them on any concrete curb we could find . That way, they would have a rough edge to cut line easier. I also remember they cost the taxpayer $2.50 each! But then again cigarettes on the ship while underway were only $2.50 a carton (25 cents a pack). My how times have changed. You do great work. I have often thought of buying a small forge and doin something. I hope your son gets back safely. Do you sell knives too? Cheers!

just a little advice from an old machinist. Keep the working end of your stock as clos as you can to your chuck in the lathe. It will prevent damage and serious injury. If it doesn't fit through the chuck , just cut shorter pieces. It will also prevent chatter. Love your work, well done

I didn’t want to have to move the stock after each pommel, hence the stick-out. I had the tail stock on it as well. Thanks for watching

I’m a huge fan & big student of yours Denis. As a Welder for 45 yrs. I have a hack for you: wrap your blades with cardboard and tape for a bit of insulation. Then use 2 small pieces of copper to clamp the pieces you want tacked together. Pace your ground clamp on the clamp that is holding the pieces to be tacked make your tack… then if you need to, you can move the setup and reset it. The setup seems like a hassle, but it is the best electrical conduction for a good weld, your assuring proper alignment for the stud, and you wont run the risk of accidentally arcing your blade. Heck you don’t even need a bench to weld it then- you can do it in your lap…

Thanks for watching the channel, Brady! I’ll consider that hack in the future. 👍
