Question: What do you do with all the steel filings? Re-use somehow or?

I re use them sometimes. It depends if they are burnt out.

Have you made a sword with your off cuts? Like turing all of the offcuts back into flat stock and welding all that back together? A bastard sword would be appropriate

I think most of the time when he’s doing a Damascus blade the “off cuts” are just the mild steel handle he welded to the billet. Usually from what I’ve seen of his work and other blacksmiths you plan out your total material at the start to avoid waste, since it’s not an inexpensive process.
