Forging A Garden Trowel From A Mower Blade.

I forged this from a lawn mower blade and used cherry for the handle. I had a lot of fun forging this and learned quite a bit in the process. I hope you enjoy the video! #blacksmith #diy #metalworking

Any old 2 part epoxy will work fine. Be it the fancy marine epoxies or cheap stuff from thr hardware store. Ive never destroyed a handle yet and I've tried.

That turned out really nice, the handle is beautiful. I make my rasp handles very similarly, with epoxy and rivets - they take a lot of abuse and have held up excellent for me.

i make knives so this handle making tip might not be applicable to other stuff but id imagine it should work. get your scales flat, tape them with painters tape and glue the taped parts together (not too much though) and then do the same for the tang. using the holes in the tang drill through the handle scales. trace then remove the tang and any excess handle material and finish up the fronts of the scales 100% before taking them apart. glue everything up and shape the handle and do the finishing. this way your pin holes will always line up and the fronts will match.

The only thing I might add is make sure the epoxy is made for metal and wood . I had a major mess up because the epoxy wouldn't stick to the metal.

What epoxy did you use? Nearly the entire knife industry uses Marine epoxies.

I would have made a socket for a handle, but not put a handle in it, but used the socket as the handle. But your cherry handle looks fantastic! Maybe you ought not take suggestions from me.

For not knowing handle scales you did fine. The pins, peened over, give mechanical hold while the epoxy maintains the rest. If you want to reduce weight and add hold you can drill out multiple holes in the handle. You can also divot both the metal and wood like a golf ball with a drill to add hold.
