This was a blast to make!
First off: This is inspired by Matt, Ilya and Chris over at That Works. They did one like this and made a great video so go check it out! • Forging a [War Hammer]...
I started with a piece of 2" round printing press roller and with my dad's help, we forged this war hammer. I am very happy with how this came out and did not expect it to be this great! The flanges on the face posed the biggest problem and they were very difficult to forge, and keep centered and straight and not twisted from the rest of he hammer. I glued together two pieces of ash for the handle, shaped it on the grinder then burned and wire brushed the wood to get the menacing look and insane texture: it feels awesome! I added a flared brass tube at the end so that a lanyard could be used but also because I felt that it needed a hint of brass. Overall it weighs just over 2.5 lbs and is about 23" long.
Follow me on Instagram @ljpenn_
and follow my Dad (who took the awesome glam shots and is responsible for everything I know about photography/ videography) on Instagram @michaelpennphotography
Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed and there is much MUCH more coming soon.

Dude that is freakin awesome! I think that is one of the most authentic and excellent war hammers I've seen on KZbin. No overdone or unrealistic stuff. Great video and great job.

Nice axe. Personally, not keen on the cross shaped head, nor the plannishing marks on the sides, but to each their own. Well done sir.

Those are the tomahawk eye tongs from blacksmiths depot aren’t they? At 1:45. That’s brilliant using them like that. Awesome work bud.

Old Hickory Forge Thanks! Yes they are the hawk eye tongs. I also got their hammer eye tongs but I don’t like them very much. Hawk eye tongs are great though!

Gosh dude! That’s amazing! I’ve been wanting to do one for a while but I’m stuck in Hawaii so I don’t have a shop and I can’t do it. :(

beautiful work, man. may i ask; did the channel 'that works' inspired you to make this, or at least inspired the design?
