If you put your magnet inside a Ziploc freezer bag BEFORE you start to use it, you can then reverse the bag, pull out the magnet & dump all of your metal shavings into the trash can. Without pulling them off your magnet....Work smarter not harder.

My first demascus billet is coming apart, had 4 layers, 2 lawnmower blade and 2 leaf spring, noticed some delam when I was stretching it just before cutting and restacking and thought I would weld it back when I welded the stack, but, using corn as fuel, my blower eventually creates a tunnel that I have to turn off the blower and fix the fire, so.... going back to using lump charcoal for welding instead of the corn, corns alright for regular forging though, and twice as much by weight at 2/3 the price of lump charcoal.

What happens if you don't add the powdered metal to the canister? On one hand it seems like the whole point of the process is to forge weld all the small bits together, so it would just take a few extra runs under the power hammer. On the other, I can see that as producing mostly cracks with a bit of metal holding it together, that you would then need to snap apart and forge weld into a billet.
