Interesting project. I imagined the order of operations to be different, because I expected the handle to be punched/drawn out like the big version, then put on the big link before forge welding. Obviously your method is fine, and apply because of the lighter duty smaller design. I’ll have to try one of these some time.

@@Vikingwerk -- Well, If I were to make the larger version, I would definitely do it as you described, punching the hole etc. Considering this is light duty and much smaller material, I went the route that I did. This small chain binder was made for a specific use, and they work very well, and actually hold a surprising amount of weight or force applied to it. I probably should have explained better in the video. Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback!!

@@ironcladranchandforge7292 Oh, you explained it fine, I just started building it in my head while you were showing off the original old one, not thinking about the changes that come with scaling it down; so the difference makes sense.

Interesting although it's not forged anything like the original that you have.

How so? I mean the main body is the same, the ring is different but functions the same, the "hook" is similar but different on the end for a good reason. This chain binder is much smaller and not intended to have a huge load put upon it. Considering the smaller diameter material, it had to be constructed slightly different. Also the intent wasn't to make a replica, but "in the style of". I've made and used these for many years and they work great for their intended use, and can handle a good binding load. But they're not ment or constructed to bind down a car or anything like that, LOL. Thanks for watching!!
