John, I really like the forge welding method of beefing up the snub end. Kinda one of those "why didn't I think of that" moments. But then, that's why I (we) watch your videos to learn new ways to do things, sometimes much simpler! Great work keeping us all enlightened!

I'm not a blacksmith but after seeing many of your videos i've the feeling I could just start with it (just kidding :-) ). I think you are a very good teacher Sir . Although I'm not blacksmithing actually I learn a lot from you - thank you. Whish I could give you more than only one thumbsup ...

I just learned how to do a French style penny scroll at a hammer-In this past Fall and man did it blow my mind. Counterintuitive in that you for. The penny as a tear drop in the opposite direction of the scroll first in order to get that gap between the rest of the stock and the penny. I love learning this stuff. Thanks for the new information.

I have a friend who has retired and he gave me some of his old Blacksmith books. With reading the books and watching your videos, I should get pretty good at Blacksmithing. I just need more shop time. Thanks again for all your help.

Now these are gorgeous scrolls, compared to the new way of making them that ends up with a flat starting point. Great job.

Nice! I love the look of a snub end scroll. I'm used to hearing it called a penny scroll.
@BlackBearForge6 жыл бұрын
I have always thought of the penny scroll as something slightly different. But have also seen it referred to as a half penny snub end. So there are lots of different names for similar things

You can often find older books online. Sources for some of these are: The Blacksmith's Craft: azblacksmiths.org/Blacksmiths%20Craft.pdf Wrought Ironwork: www.mooseforge.com/library/Wrought%20Ironwork.pdf It appears that you can download a free pdf (scribd account needed) of Decorative Ironwork from Artisan Ideas: www.artisanideas.com/product/decorativeironworkfreepdf/Decorative-Ironwork-Some-Aspects-of-Design-and-Technique-by-The-Countryside-Agency,-1962.html You can also simply look at it online (without an account). Another that popped up is Hand Forging and Wrought Iron Ornamental Work: www.woodworkslibrary.com/repository/hand_forging.pdf
