Thanks so much for making this video! I only have a small chunk of iron for my “anvil” but I think I can make it into a sort of stump anvil now! It won’t be as good as this but it should get the job done for a beginner blacksmith :)

I'm curious, why is the spike as long as it is? I would think that around 4 inches would work well enough but that looks like 7 or 8. I am not a blacksmith just an interested old man.

No particular reason other than a longer shank adds more mass.

Hi Man, I'm here from Denis Tyrell channel:). You made very cool Anvils! During a video I've noticed a few things, and I thoudht maybe you can help me: - Same as you, I didn't solidly mount an anvil to the ground (I have limited space and I can't leave it in the middle of the workshop), however I have tirpod stand, not a solid wooden block. My question is How your floor sirviving it? Mine (2 inch concrete) is totally broken :/.. - you have very cool hydraulic press- from different video I know that this is 12 ton press. Can you tell me what's the weight? and what's the thickness and diamentions of the angle bars that makes the frame? - Last thing: I've heard that useing chain to mute/suppress anvil sound actually doesn't work, but many people still useing it, and that makes me curious: is it working or not :P?.. Also I've heard that using small neo magnet makes better result- have you try it? I'll definitely watch your bladesmith/blacksmith progression:)- you make cool stuff ! - Cheers David

I have a wooden floor and it’s holding up fine. For the press its a coal ironworks 12 ton press im away from my forge for the summer but I’m sure if you got a hold of them they could give you the dimensions. And as for the chain on my anvil I use it as a hold fast. I’ll lay some of the chain over the piece I’m working on to keep it in place. I have my anvil mounted and siliconed to a steel stand which deadens the ring significantly. Thanks for watching!!🔥⚒💪🏻

@@HeavyForge thanks a lot for information! So the chain on anvil is like quick vise? Am I understand right? Wow- I would never think of this- brilliant:)!
