What an awesome thing to receive from your dad, high-quality tools and toolbox handmade by him absolutely priceless! Jake's toolbox series is just a pleasure to watch come together and be made! It's so cool to see honest content like this not being made for likes or too get subscribers too follow him, although I'm sure he doesn't mind from all the likes and subscribers he gets from putting these videos out 😉👍👍👍

Also if you don’t want to ruin your files and save your belts, vinegar will also take off black oxide of your forged blades. I have done it a few times myself using cleaning vinegar (regular works to but cleaning vinegar is stronger). Just note that it will take longer than stripping it off with files/grinders.

Good video Walter. I've made a few chisels and it's always a fun project. Flame Wood is a common name for Dalbergia Cochinchinensis, also called Laotian, cambodian, or Thai rosewood. It is on both the CITES appendix II list, and the IUCN Red List. Definitely not one you're going to get imported these days, but I've seen some smaller pieces for sale for $$.

Why is it banned?

all the rosewoods are restricted due to over harvesting. I think the Flame Wood is especially threatened because of the demand from China.

Did you do a video I might have missed as you made the box? That is an excellent box. I once made a knife and screwed it up so decided it might make a good chisel, but I screwed it up again and it is now in my kitchen drawer labeled oyster shucker. That's why I stick to making throwing daggers.

Netflix style Jake's toolbox Nice Also I've found myself making my own set of tools like hammers and chisels because I ended up having extra material and it works out cheaper for me to make it now Only expensive part is exposy thats the last thing I need in bulk

If you had to guess, how many bladesmiths do you think started by watching these videos? has to be in the hundreds, which I think is cooler than making the blades themselves.

Walter, do you have any forum where we can ask you questions as newbies so that we can get answers to some of the simpler questions in forging?

I'd love to buy a knife from you, but I'm not in a place to spend that kind of money on a knife. When you live on a fixed income you have to prioritize how you use your money.

You don't need to consider it, as you say, it's a matter of priorities. if you have no money, you need money, not things. I grew up with stingy parents and wanted for a lot. I guess as an adult now, I got a good job, blew a lot of money on toys and realized it was nicer to start making things than it is to want for buying the next thing.
