@@jangobango2847 Goldeneye was amazing. I loved TWINE too, since I owned the damn game and played it a lot. Just the sheer number of players and bots together with the customization available on multiplayer was mind-blowing.
@zach5708
@zach5708 2 жыл бұрын
@@jangobango2847 Not so. In fact, most people didn't even actually play Perfect Dark, because it was too choppy and cut down unless you got the add on Expansion Pak, AND it came out right at the last minute when everyone was leaving the N64 console. Most of my friends and family were all jamming on Goldeneye for a few years, and most didn't play Perfect Dark until much later through emulation to get the graphics boost and better framerate. Perfect Dark was actually fairly niche when it released.

A weird and cool 64 game that has been long since forgotten about for me is Fighter's Destiny. It's a 3-D fighter with a traditional cast, but a non-traditional gameplay style. Instead of depleting a health bar, you're gunning for points like a traditional karate match. Punches and kicks aren't worth a lot, but a throw or ring out is worth a few, and a throw-counter is worth a bunch. Fun game. And you can play as a cow. Not a cow person, just a cow standing on its hind legs and doing sick martial arts.

@@joshuachittun9109 Getting into counter-counter-counter matches is super tense and satisfying too. I really wish another fighting game would pull off the Fighter's Destiny style, but nope, it's all gotta be "balanced" and "tournament friendly." Sucker Punch is one of my favorite video game developers because what they lack in number of games they've made, they more than make up for in the quality of each one. They use every second of the numerous years they take to make a game and turn in some pretty brilliant stuff! I don't have that many favorite game companies because I typically enjoy various games from wildly differing developers because the games matter more than the companies that make them. That being said, Sucker Punch is a company I often associate with quality, so my curiosity is automatically peaked when their name enters a conversation about upcoming games.

I definitely played it a lot more than Goldeneye when I think back. I think it was an improvement, overall. It certainly was in terms of graphics and game mechanics. I just remember leaving my N64 on for days, possibly weeks at a time, to finally beat it. That was because I didn't have the memory card and couldn't save the game...might also have been why I played it so much lol. I was terrible at figuring out games as a kid and never looked at strategy guides or asked people. I had to start that game over every time I turned it on, which was a lot. I had Hybrid Heaven growing up! Holy crap, that brings back memories. I loved that game. It was such a unique style of RPG gameplay, and the story was friggin' bonkers. Ah man, glad to see it getting some attention.

The N64 is the easiest way to push my "childhood nostalgia button", and the second you talked about "Weird racers" I knew you were gonna be talking about Iggy's. One of my all-time favorite games, weird as that is. Mission Impossible is actually super underrated as well.

Regarding *BattleTanx* - I owned this game when I lived on the island of Roi-Namur on the Kwajalein Atoll '99-2000 (it is well worth your time to Google that up - it's a cool place, with all kinds of forgotten history from WWII). There is ZERO to do out there when you work night shifts and have a night off after you get tired of going for moonlit walks on a tropical island beach... and, you get bored. My fellow night shift friends, or just solo - I would stay up all night playing BattleTanx, getting shit faced on Captain Morgan rum, and eating coconut crabs. It was a hell of an adventure for a 22 year old!

New to your channel Austin. I’m a 33 year old life-long gamer. I grew up playing my older brother’s Atari and NES and even though I missed the arcade heydays of the 80’s arcades were still pretty big when I was a kid. I was much more into PS than N64, my brother got me into the FF games and my eldest brother is an electrical engineer that actually helped design the PS2 and I got a free one before it was released from him. I have played most of these N64 games however. Weekends back then meant going to a friend’s with an N64 playing some multiplayer golden eye for 4 hours or so, burning some CDs and then going to blockbuster to rent 3-4 games and rock out to some music. Those were the days.

One cool thing i realized (since i didn't know about raguka kids) is that the green bear with cannons glued to him appears as a special easter egg in castlevania circle of the moon twice: first as the bear ring (which has his face and is essentially a joke item since it reduces all your stats by a 100 points) and you can full-on transform into him by using the DSS combination of pluto and black dog while wearing it. The regular effect of the card combination is turning into a skeleton and throw bones just like the enemy, except you have the chance of throwing a giant bone that deals more damage than anything in the game.

BattleTanx is so often overlooked but they were one of the most consistently played multi-player games on N64 in my house growing up. My brother and cousin and our friends must have put in hundreds of hours in the multi-player modes.

I absolutely loved my 64 back in my late teens. I never did play Iggy, but I do remember seeing it here and there. Watching the gameplay, it sorta reminds me of Uniracers on SNES. Oh, and I love your comment, "....but it's not a racing game." ...zooms in on the '1st' icon... hahaha! good stuff!

I'm surprised for snowboard kids 2 You didn't mention the adventure mode that has a whole storyline and boss battles. I will always remember having to race down the mountain shooting a giant mechanical snowman before it reaches the finish line. Also I could never beat that raptor. Also that theme song still gets stuck in my head some days.
