You requested video ideas, so... Sick Day Games. You'd have two segments you could do: games that are the perfect things to play on those days when you're under the weather and just want something low-key and cheerful to keep your spirits up between the bouts of coughing and/or vomiting and/or sleeping off the funk, and games that you play on those days you might not actually be any more sick than just sick of responsibilities and need something to zone out with.

Astal is the most “Sega Saturn” game ever. -really nice 2D sprites -god tier music -janky but charming english localization -flew under the radar when it came out -insanely expensive on eBay

As someone who grew up with Archie Sonic comics, fun fact: Astal actually shows up as a background character at random points. He never says anything, but you’ll see him celebrating/fighting sometimes whenever there’s a large group of people. I mention this because for the longest time I had no idea who or what in the world he was supposed to be. Kid me made up my own name and backstory for him and everything lol. It was only until recently that I found out who he was and where he actually came from. So I kinda have this weird soft spot for the guy even though I’ve never played the game.

They didnt slap the Die Hard license on it, it was always a Die Hard game. The Japanese version came out the month prior as Dynamite Deka because in Japan the Die Hard Rights were owed by another company. The serial numbers were filed off in Japan, not something slapped on for International release.

Late comment but they didn't do NOTHING with it exactly- Dynamite Cop was designed by Makoto Uchida, who was SEGA's director behind Golden Axe and Altered Beast so the arcade lineage was strong, and it received a few sequels that continued to refine it's style of 3D beat-em-up as well as gave inspiration to a team at SEGA who developed the arcade / Xbox game Spikeout... a team lead by a certain Toshihiro Nagoshi... who'd later go on to create the Yakuza series, starting in 2005. Granted, Dynamite Deka was 96, Spikeout was 98, so it certainly took them a good long while until they finally made something of it, but at least they tried? Gold star for trying?

Rhythm Thief & the Emperor's Treasure for the 3DS is shamefully overlooked among SEGA's output in the 2010s. It still boggles my mind that it never became a full-blown franchise with like five sequels and a tie-in anime series!

14:24 Triple Trouble was so good that it got a fan remake to make it closer to the 16 bit games on the Genesis. I encourage anyone that hasn't played it to do so if you can! So good... Bonanza Bros is my favorite Genesis game and it's a shame it doesn't get the credit it deserves for being the first co-op stealth game. A dang shame it never got a sequel or reboot, but I'm glad they made it into Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing. And shout-out to the sister series: Puzzle & Action. I love WarioWare and it's basically that with, yet again, co-op. Ichidant-R, the _second_ game in the series got a Sega Ages port a couple years ago and it even comes with the Mega Drive port. It's completely in Japanese, but the online manual has some translations. It's also an RPG and the mini-game mode supports up to 4 players. Another easy recommendation.

Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole for the Genesis is the greatest classic Zelda-like of all time, weird controls be damned. Stick with it, and you'll find a hidden gem so bright, you will need welding goggles. It was the first video game I played that felt like an immersive, whole three dimensional world, what with the awesome isometric pixel depth. There are also romhacks that fix the controls, if you really need it.

I was surprised that Austin didn't talk about one of the main draws of Blood Will Tell which is how the game responds to Hyakkimaru regaining his body parts such as controller vibration being enabled when you get your nervous system back and the game becoming colored once you get your eyes back. The "AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" scene we saw was from when he got his vocal cords back and prior to that, Hyakkimaru's voice had a filter put on it.

Very great video & surprised this came out so soon! As for forgotten Sega titles I got two in mind for that, Rhythm Thief, a very sick rhythm playing as a stylish thief named Phantom R & appreciate how it also has a charming story on top of it then there's Sands of Destruction, a mega niche DS RPG that is really good for a subversion of saving the world to destroy the world for being beyond repair plus the combat is really good & surprised not a lot of people know about it but at least give the music a listen since it was done by Yasunori Mitsuda (Did most of the Xeno games & Chrono Trigger)

Astal!! That's quite fun as two player, and having the bird attack the moving platforms to pause them in Sea of Clouds makes it SO much easier! And we played so much Clockwork Knight 1 and 2, even if we had trouble properly beating them - funny to think they were Keyblade wielders before Kingdom Hearts... Fantastic look back at these classics, my husband and I enjoyed going down memory lane!

This video absolutely wasn't clickbait. Like holy hell, that's a lot of games that I didn't know existed. And some of which I wanted to play! Mostly the Dororo one as well as Napple Tale. There was an unfortunate detail you did overlook about MadWorld though: it was made by Platinum Games. And holy hell, it's as gory as it is a vibe. I even contemplated wanting to play it again this year because of your vids, but then I remember I would have to use a Wii remote which keeps draining batteries til they rot even when not used.....

Thank you for covering Astal!! I picked it up as a kid from the bargain bin for like 8 bucks. I went in expecting really nothing since it was "2D crap" but ended up really loving the game. Anime was still really new in my neck of the woods, only like 6 people in my school knew of it so we tried to consume anything we could. Astal went from a curiosity to a special place in my heart. The scaling, rotation and unique art make it still awesome today.

Agreed about those Sonic Game Gear games. Only found myself a Game Gear last December, got it with Sonic 2 and Sonic Chaos and just last month I picked up Triple Trouble. Chaos and Triple Trouble are my favourite games on the platform par none, and the ones I easily sunk the most hours into. They retain so much from the console entries, while still keeping with the times and being original. Triple Trouble is the better game of the two, Chaos' level design is very.. boring, or empty I suppose, and Fang The Sniper is pretty damn cool in Triple Trouble. I would avoid Sonic 2 though, it's super cheap but also extremely difficult. Like I've never beaten the very first boss of the game, and it isn't difficult in like a Dark Souls way where you build skill to beat the game, no, the first boss battle is complete luck, your on a slope that Sonic continually slides down, at the bottom is an enemy you can't kill, and you have to narrowly avoid bouncing balls (I think that's what they are?) that come at you at random intervals. Oh and did I mention there isn't a single ring in the entire stage, so if you get hit by the ball even once, or the enemy at the bottom, you INSTANTLY DIE. Most people online agree, they haven't got past the first damn boss either. If you want quality Sonic games, stick with Chaos and Triple Trouble.

Excluding Persona and Yakuza, my favourite Sega series is Valkyria Chronicles. While the series was popular when it first released and sold well enough, I feel like it is being slowly forgotten by Sega over time. The first and fourth games are available on modern consoles, but the second and third are stuck on the PSP (the latter wasn't even translated!) And Valkyria Revolution is..... interesting by Sega standards.

Oh the number of games in here that has me Leo-pointing at the screen as I, a man in my thirties also relive the younger years. Ristar, Taz-games (it was the other one where Taz tries to escape an alien zoo for me though), Clockwork Knight, Die Hard Arcade (actually played it in a genuine arcade!) and Story of Thor which was just the most beautiful thing I'd ever played at the time, a clear indicator that I was a 2D-lover who'd permanently find himself on the losing end of "this thing you love is mainstream and gets a lot of love"-train... of course I then also bought and played Madworld. Kinda surprised it got THAT high scores though- game was fun but I always felt at odds with it's gameplay. Felt like you were meant to find the ways to get high-scoring kills but those weren't always the most effective kills, so I just stuck to the quickest combo to kill enemies and don't recall getting very good scores from it. Boss-fights were fun though. And props for showing off Napple Tale- I didn't even know that game existed, but it looks like just the kind of stylish game I'd love to play back then.

Dude Astal is definitely a hidden gem on the SEGA Saturn. The color, the backdrop; you know it kinda reminded me of 1980's and early 1990's cartoons, and heck you could interact with it. Speaking of which that's why I like playing Nintendo and SEGA games. The cartoon IS the game, and you get to be a part of that. Everybody seems to want the "real" looking games nowadays and to be quite honest I personally never really liked those kinds of games. They just don't click with me, and for those who DO like those kinds of games hey there's definitely a market group no doubt. I grew up with cartoony games going all the way back to the late 1980's and early 1990's with Atari and the NES. I didn't get around to SEGA actually until the Dreamcast came out, and no matter what people say about that system I thoroughly enjoyed the living tar out of that sucker. But.... when The Playstation 2 came out I couldn't afford it for quite a few years after it came out. I can remember being in The Army in the barracks 20 something odd years ago and my battle buds and I would get drunk and have competitions with Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast. Oh my that was fun, however I will say I was kinda bummed because when I saw Soul Calibur in the arcade the Dreamcast version looked even better, and I used to love the arcade (and I still love the old school games) but it was then I realized that home consoles were going to eliminate the arcades after that. That was when I knew the arcade hay days were pretty much over. I'm 45 years old so I remember when the best graphics and sound for a long time could only be found at the arcades when it came to games. Home ports were fun but the arcade gave you the ultimate experience when I was growing up.

Although I only played the demo back in the day, I felt The Club was kinda overlooked at the time. It felt like a unique approach to a shooter with some fun ideas. Legend of Oasis is still one of my favourite with its first episode on Mega Drive. It's not a Zelda clone, more a beat 'em up with bird fly view. Zelda structure is quite different and puzzle oriented.

Probably "Amazing Island." One of the best robust 3d character makers for video games until the advent of Spore [pc].

If you're still taking video ideas Austin, I personally would love another "More Obscure/Forgotten SNES Games" type video, specifically because I need someone else to acknowledge the existence of 'Power Piggs of the Dark Age' so I don't convince myself that it was a made up fever dream I concocted as a child! 😂 I swear I never hear anyone talking about it, but I remember renting it from Blockbuster or Hollywood Video, and it being a part of my SNES gaming sessions mixed in among 'Stunt Race FX', 'Scooby-Doo Mystery', 'Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose' (which was the only Tiny Toon videogame I played as a child; I didn't even know 'ACME All-Stars' or 'Wacky Sports Challenge' existed, I just played the shit out of 'Buster Busts Loose'), 'Beethoven: The Ultimate Canine Caper', 'Animaniacs' (SNES), 'Dirt Trax FX', 'Mighty Morphin Power Rangers', and 'Power Rangers Zeo: Battle Racers' and of course DKC1, DKC2, Yoshi's Island, and Super Mario RPG. Or maybe you could do a "Forgotten Nintendo Games" video, so you can not only cover some of those SNES games but also talk about 'The Flintstones: The Rescue of Dino & Hoppy", which is another Nintendo game I remember playing, if not out right owning, which I feel gets forgotten amidst the other Flintstones games that were on the NES and SNES.

Man, you sure made me miss Space Harrier now... I just to love playing that on my Master System. Wait, was that a COW BARTENDER SELLING ITS OWN MILK?! (In Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream)

Feels good to hear someone talk about Knuckles Chaotix. It's one of my favorite Sonic games, let alone the best 32X game IMO. Sure, not the best game ever, it's very VERY jank, but man when I finally grabbed a working 32X emulator during my peak Sonic heyday and got it going on my parents Windows XP computer, that thing was pure magic

Sega for sure has a lot of forgotten franchises but they do try to keep some of them at least playable compared to some companies. One of my favorite things about the Yakuza titles is visiting the arcade and playing stuff that was mostly brushed off like Virtual On or Fighting Vipers. Compared to stuff like Capcom, or even worse Konami, at least it's not insanely hard to find some of Sega's titles.

Oh wow, Napple Tale at the end really surprised me...does indeed look like a game that could have gained a cult following like many other DC titles but never heard of at all until now. If you ever plan in taking a look at more forgotten SEGA games someday, you probably know there's a trove of unported or just pretty obscure stuff SEGA made for arcades.

Yeah there's almost an overwhelming amount of unlocalized stuff too. It'll take some digging for sure!
