An amazing cemetery here, some really interesting burials. But the cemetery is just the beginning of the story, the story of a farming community that used to be here and is no more. Basically a ghost town in the woods, that is all but gone and completely forgotten. This was a really interesting place and will be a 3 part video series on this community. My Mother's home town in southwestern Indiana is going the same way as this community did. It was primarily an Irish - Catholic area and they all farmed as well. The coal mines have come in and mined the area out. Once they have done that the land is never the same in a geographical sense and people cannot farm for 20 years on that land so it becomes a "voluntary ghost town."

I really enjoy your videos. It’s so sad that there are so many forgotten cemeteries, I’m happy that you are documenting them! Are the large table tombs actually above ground tombs or are the actual graves under the ground? I see a lot of these in videos and have always wondered?

These old graves from the 1770s to the 1820s are my favorite. The fact they are still around are a testament to the craftsmanship with which they were made. I wonder what life was like for them. They were around just after the revolution of the founding of the country. That must have been an amazing time.

I noticed how Daniel gave one last gentle touch of his hand as he left a few of the the crypts. It was so endearing as if to say “peace be with you”.

These people died so young. It’s so sad some of them really didn’t get to experience life very long. Their lives seemed to be full of sadness with the losses of their loved ones at young ages only to soon follow them themselves. I can imagine they didn’t take life for granted and cherished each other every day. Life had to be hard back then. God rest their souls. Thank you for your channel. It really puts into perspective how precious life is and don’t take it for granted. ❤️
@questionguy58634 жыл бұрын
Yes they did die young, the life span wasn't that long back then compared to now. They didn't have the medical care we have now. It makes me laugh when I watch a western like Gunsmoke. the doctor just had a pair of pliers for digging out bullets and pulling teeth and a saw for arm or leg removal. No X-Ray, no blood work, no MRI, they didn't even have electricity.

Couldnt you find out more About thiese communities.? Did they have a name for the town/village.did the have school , Church ,.... blacksmith ?, if they went to doctor ,- WHO was he ? , when and how or why did they establish this communitie.? Where were their houses/buildings, and whats (secretly?) Left og them? I her Very curios, i life in Denmark.

I thoroughly enjoy your adventures. My heart goes out to you in your struggles reading the inscriptions. I realize that it might be a challenge in carrying something else to these grave such as a flash light, broom, etc. I wonder if on one occasion you might try using a spray of water from a spray bottle to bring forth the lettering on the tombstones, mimicking what rain water does. I hope you see this as a positive and not a sacrilegious act. Just a thought.

I subscribed not too long ago and noticed that you have to wipe away debris from many of the stones. Perhaps a handy tool would be a whisk broom, the kind a baseball ump uses to clean home plate. They're fast, they wipe away quite a bit and could keep your hands a little cleaner and safer from sharp rocks and thorns. Just a couple of swipes usually does the trick. I've had one for some time and many cost less than $5. Then again you may have your hands full (flashlights, etc) already. I'm not complaining, just trying to be helpful. Just saying. Thanx for the many interesting videos.

Wasting your time..people have told him over and over for at least the year and half I've been subscribed and he never gets anything to better the headstones when reading. Have had countless people offer to buy him the necessary tools and he still doesnt get it,even had a flashlight company give him flashlights but he doesnt bring them 75% of the time. Check the comments after every show and you'll see countless people saying same thing.

I dont think that I would be scared to in a cemetery unless maybe where the prison inmates are buried like ones who were murderers then I might be uneasy in it. He might,, but there so old I doubt anything is left between the natural decomposing process, but body snatchers were really bad back in the days they died..But I’m sure some bones are down there in a few of those graves.., but remember they wasn’t buried in vaults either,, just old wooden caskets with fabric on them..
