My home from home ! I miss the Vetch field so much! The lads were like my family. Started going in the early seventies with my Dad and granfather. Later to become involved in football violence in the early 80s which was my downfall and got me in a lot of trouble even lost jobs through it. Soon as my son was born it changed everything for me and I tried so hard to stay away from trouble but unfortunately I always got dragged back into it ! I finally was one of the first to be banned from football and with my wife putting her foot down I finally had no option but to stay away! Been to the Liberty over the years since but the atmosphere is nothing like my beloved Vetch field! It actually brings tears to my eyes! Jack Army and Casual for life!

thank you for this. my first game at the Vetch was in 1974, and I was utterly captivated by the whole experience. before the back third was shut, the old North Bank was a massive old terrace and quite a raucous place! yes it was a sh!tty old ground but it was OUR sh!tty old ground. like Brentford, a pub (at least one) on every corner once visited never forgotten!!

Thanks for doing this. First game at the Vetch for me was in 1986. The Liberty, although we’ve had good times there, is not as hostile as the vetch. Miss the place immensely.

Thanks for watching this video. I imagine the Liberty would never hold a candle to the Vetch for many Swansea fans.

Great memories. I went there in April 2001 and watched Luton win 3-1 and win promotion to the third tier

Vetch Field, Swansea was my second home for many years. Mentioned in the video was 2 crowds of just over 1000 and on both occasions i was one of the few. From 1970 Swansea had a very exciting time, they were either being relegated or promoted. Then came the John Toshack years.. Surely this could not be happening to my beloved team. Then off to the Liberty, but my fondest memories were with great pals and good times at the Vetch.

Lovely memories of going down there with my dad in the 1950's. Not the prettiest of grounds but it had a special atmosphere that modern stadia lack. Swansea fans have always shown respect for away fans as I remember on one occasion when we gave Doncaster Rovers a standing ovation at the end on losing their league status after a battling 0-0 draw in those dark days in the old fourth division.

It seems to be a common theme with people saying the new grounds are soulless.

Excellent film . Well put together . Vetch Field was an intimating stadium for away teams , a bit scary , not sure the Liberty Stadium has that same feel about it !

Although the facilities for away supporters were primitive I liked The Vetch Field and never, as a Bristol Rovers supporter, had any problems there with home fans - although our coach was once 'bricked' on the way out of the city after a match we won. How about a film of Eastville?

I forgot to mention how much I've also enjoyed watching county cricket at The St. Helen's ground near the site of The Vetch Field (where rugby is also played). It's ramshackle, but the food on offer there is good value and unpretentious and the view over the Bristol Channel from the seating in front of the clubhouse is excellent on those occasions when one's interest in the game falters (surely not!).

I was in the record crowd of 37,000 for the FA Cup game against Arsenal, I think it was 1967, we were packed in like sardines, and I thought what would happen if I took my feet off the ground , absolutely nothing, I didn’t move. How times have changed, but for the better.?
@historyoffootball87

It would have been crazy to be at the ground for that game. The only thing close I can relate with was I went to this Rugby League game where about 20,000 packed in and it were like being in an elevator.

I used to think this was a weird ground. It must have had dreadful Fen Shii. Attending with Carlisle, I have to say the locals were not the friendliest!

They were mad old days buddy, the vetch was placed in the sandfields swansea, and back in the day,and the locals in that area were pissed off with all the commotion, with the footy heads lol,think the main reason we built the liberty stadium was because its not in the middle of a housing estate lol lol lol
