I was born and raised in Avon Park, have lived in Sebring for the past 25 years or so. Funny thing is, my husband retired from Sebring Police Dept. after 25 years and never knew anything about the town cat buried on the circle! He checked with a friend of his who also retired from the PD and he had never seen it either! Learn something new every day!

Cool job you two on putting together that video, well done I enjoyed it.... hopefullyyou shared the final cut with Elaine, she should consider showing it at the museum, it'd make a great addition towards sharing the local history...I was gonna say have it play on a loop in the background but after a couple of months of that it might land Elaine in restraints at the psych ward lol

Great video of my home town. Grew up & went to school in Avon Park (we call it AP for short) moved from AP in 1995. Sebring was our Rival for school games. AP Red Devils VS. Sebring Blue Streaks. Oh Fun times. Was good seeing the Jacaranda Hotel & the old Reeds Motel. Thanks for the memories. Was hoping to see the AP Bombing Range but realized you can only cover but so much. I did not know that about the Dinner Rolls so I learned something new. Great content.

Glad you got to Central Florida. It's quieter and has a charm about it. My favorite is Sebastian Inlet East Coast Atlantic Side.

It's December 30, 2022. I just watched your story on Valentine, Texas. I found this afterwards. You went to Avon Park and Sebring! I can't believe it. That is where I want to live. I looked at Rand McNally years ago, trying to find a place in the warmth of Florida with cheaper housing and a slower lifestyle. I noticed Avon Park and Sebring stood out as they were the end of the road, more or less. I almost bought a house in AP in 2014, when it was $20k. It is now appraised as worth around $180k. It was spacious and had old woodwork. It reminded me of the "kind of" English houses you see in New Zealand or Australia. Babe Ruth stayed in the Jacaranda when that house was new. The hotel is run by students in the hospitality industry department of South Florida State College. The original home of SFSC in the 1960s was that green building you showed as being that famous architect's third effort. The college now has a nice campus between two lakes halfway between the two towns. Sebring is also really cool I could go on a while, but thanks for showing me more of a place I really want to visit!!!! You keep surprising me!!!! 🤯

Avon Park named after Shakespeare's home town. Now that is interesting! Never knew they tried growing pineapples there. Segregated train stations was common. When we visited South Carolina in early 2000s we saw some old segregation signs. 5:30 That small yellow house is cute! 5:56 wow that column is an interesting relic. The Jacaranda Hotel is unique. 5:56 Thanks fir pointing out the histirica l buildings. Love the old bandstand!! Thanks for introducung Elaine. I actualky heard of Sebring. I think that it is realky cool that the town is built around a circle. Love the story of the cat!

The old IGA store was located at the intersection of the Commerce and the Circle. It was on the west side of the circle, right about where Eagle's Nest Learning Center is located today. That looks like the same building.

Old IGA was in the building at the far left of the screen at min 12:00. The owners family lived upstairs. My grandmother used to shop there before there was a Publix.

Nice video. Just one point Whitey would be famous or notorious, unless he was a murderer or criminal then he would be infamous. Politicians and criminals are infamous, a good person or other animal is famous. Maybe to the restaurant inspector and health department he was infamous. Glad you had a nice trip.

Heyyyyy it's my place, well Highlands County. Sebring also has a haunted hotel and one of the country's longest racetracks regularly hosting the 12 hours of Sebring race. There was also a Major Thomas B McGuire from Sebring who is a famous piolet in WW2. The original founding Family (the Sebrings) still live in town. Went to school with one of the kids. A lot of the lakes in the area (Something like 150 lakes in the county total) are from sinkholes or natural springs. I know Lake Jackson and Lake Denton were spring fed. Anyway, cool seeing it on youtube!!

I would image, that, back in the day, - you and Marty may have been considered "colored folks". The reason being, that, you are BOTH 'Wisconsin White.' Floridians don't tend to reflect the sun as brightly as the two of you. 🏝😂🤦♂ Marty, if short pants is your choice - PLEASE get some color on those things. Sally, tanner legs may be great for guys, but gal's are always accepted here in Florida. ================= I am quickly becoming a huge fan of this channel. Thank you both - for posting these trips.
